best time to go to Amsterdam?

Post by cantona7 »

whats up my fellow amsterdam and weed fans? I know this seems a silly question but i was wondering what time of the year is the best time of the year to go to amsterdam(i know there is not a "bad" time to go to this wonderful city). I went in late august/early September of last year and the weather was great. Is it as nice in June? Are there crowds in December? I have a chance to possibly go at the end of June instead of my original plans of late November/December. I have seen alot of great advice and insightful opinions on here so thought i would ask.

I'd say June is much better - about 18hrs of daylight compared to about 6 in winter. I've been in June and had 5 days of 30C weather, but equally it can be 12C, raining and blowing a gale...there are no guarantees in Northern Europe. Winter is fun too, but bring plenty of warm clothes.

Everytime has its plus and minus points, I went last summer in July, the weather was too hot, something like 34 degrees C. Even with shorts and t-shirt on sitting in that weather just drained every drop out of me and the joints were knocking me out because of the heat. Was very nice though to be able to sit outside of a C/Shop and smoke away.

I also went in the Winter - November and February, It was nice to see the streets so empty and be able to walk around with no crowds there. Its also nice to walk out into a cool breeze, it kinda freshens you up. But it can be miserable over there also.

Hope this helps

yea I agree all times have their + and -. I like the sound of a winter in amsterdam but i dont think the heat would bother me much because it gets warm here in the summer..sometimes near 40( atleast last summer)
