Hey all,
For those in search of something a bit different to add to the itinerary or hankering for a good side excursion, I'm gonna have vouch big for heading to Utrecht and spending a few hours navigating the cities waterways via canoe/kayak. Went yesterday with the misssus and a friend in town visiting.
HIGHyaking
The 2 hour route which we opted for guided us through the city's Oude Gracht (old canal) and out to it's outer rim and through some wooded, residential and park areas. It's really a great way to see the city and the unique set up of the "werfs" on the canals makes seeing the city from water level more appreciable than in Amsterdam (and seeing it yesterday made me consider it's beauty quite rivals that of Mokum) The diversity of scenery on the route is great, and getting up close to the water you realize just how much cleaner it is than Amsterdam's it's more of a cloudy green turquoise than the rich brown of Mokum's finest grachten. We were told that you can swim on a lot of the area's of the route, but alas I had left appropriate garments at home, shucks!
Accompanied the journey with a t' Grasje spacecake (which I am intoxicated on as I type aboard my flixbus to Paris) and a few pure cones of Karma StrawBanana Cream LTD. Was a beautiful experience highly recommended, (weather permitting) I will certainly be dragging OHMF there when he arrives in a few weeks!
Cost is 8 euro per hour single kayak, 10 euro per hour 2 person kayak. Rental center is Kanoeverhuur Utrecht , go check 'em out!
