I did win an archery competition one time at a Dutch Christmas market/carnival set up in Rembrandtsplein. That was the end of November.

Won a very nice bottle of Dom Perignon in that competition. Used it to barter at the Blarney Stone, that Irish bar near Centraal, to stay until they finished cleaning (5am). The bartender (female) played music the entire time, drank, and let me/wife hang out. Then flew out later. We had a 1 night layover and made the best of it.

Calling it a competition may be a stretch, but I was so high and hit all 5 targets w 6 arrows in 3 rounds against a few dozen others. I also recall gorgeous women kissing me, but my wife said that kissing part did not really happen.

So come to think of it, AMS does have a Christmas market, although it was more a winter festival in late Nov.

Ah, that makes more sense, a Christmas market does not have to be exactly at Christmas in many European countries, there is a very nice one in Flensburg Germany that also starts in November IIRC and there is an annual international Santa gathering and festival at the amusement park "bakken" near Copenhagen this one during summertime... :D hundreds if not thousands of Santas from all over the world, a lot of them drunk, is a very odd sight when it is hot out... :D

If u want to see a Christmas market, check out Vienna. Prague is nice, too, but has nothing on Vienna.
