i would find it foolish to not grow your own if you have that ability,..and some of them costs are once every few years and some are one time buys ,..even start a compost box ,worm box for castings and recycle dirt and much more ,..its cake if you do a greenhouse ,sun dont cost a thing,...

Also, the cost for a typical indoor grow is a bit off.
Here is the real cost of a grow, in Germany.
Tent: 4x4x6' - $200
Illumination: 600w switchable ballast (MH/HPS), reflector, lamps - varies, approximately $250
Light Bulb: MH - $40/HPS - $50
Exhaust Fan w/filter: $150
Circulating Fan: $35
Coco Grow Bag(s): 4 liters of compressed coco coir in an 8 liter bag, each - $1.90 each
Nutrients (starter kit): price varies, approximately $100
Total: Approximately $800
Note: with the exception of the coco, the cost of materials are either one-time or multiple crops (example: lamps have a life span of approximately 5000-7500 hours @ 100%).
Cost per gram: < $0.45

here in the uk you're gonna get a tent, lighting, contactor, carbon filter, extractor, ducting, some kind of hydro (dripper, nft, ebb'n'flow), some nutrient and some basic tools for £300 ....... everything except the nutrient is a one off (save £20 for a new lamp every now and then) ...... it's a no brainer really.
