Back once again...

Post by user54321 »

Just couldn't help ourselves... myself and the good lady only got back a few weeks ago and we've booked up again!!!

(Apologies for the lack of report, I don't recall much at all apart from going mint green after my first J in the water-city  - was all good though - no spewing or falling over, just the most incredible light headed feeling)

It's the strangest thing, March was our first visit and when I look at pictures of Warmoesstraat the only way to describe how I feel is HOMESICK. How totally bizzare is that????

We stayed in the Greenhouse Effect last month and as much as I really liked that place we're gonna go for Cornerhouse, it's far and away cheaper and we only really need a bed and a shower in all fairness. It seems like a nice enough place and near enough to the madness to stagger back at night...

Anyways, July 1-5 ... I'm counting the days!!!!!!! (returning on my birthday which is always a bit shit but I'm working nightshift on the 6th so can't be helped. Besides, I'll be up at the crack of dawn smoking myself into a social coma so when I land on home turf I'll still be ripped on dutch weed... straight to the pub for birthday boozing me thinks!!)

btw, was it just us... or did anyone else find A'dam really confusing to find your way about on their first trip? I had the ACD map and it didn't help very much, we ended up back in the same place everytime ... like walking in a big circle ... haha, perhaps we were just too stoned and the easiest way to get lost is to follow someone who's following you... we ended up missing alot of the coffeeshops I had on my 'to-do' list because of this...

No matter, can't bloody wait - yeeehawwwwwwwwwwwww.....

my first time was with people that had been before so wasnt bad, but when i went with 2 mates we took the ACD map but also got a map from our hotel which was a bit more detailed with street names, found that using the 2 together really helped

I mainly used Nemesis' map. The one which has all the coffeeshops pointed out. We also had a real map with all the street names. However, we never used the real map since we were always looking for coffeeshops and found it easier to orientate myself with coffeeshops as a pose to street names. Thats the advantage of having a coffeeshop on every street it makes it so easy to find your way around once you figure it out.

Sly likes the Rough Guide Map; it lists some coffeeshops, is water- and tear-proof. Carry a compass. Getting lost is part of the fun! Have a bountiful birthday, Neldo!

back once again

We took the ACD map, but bought an A-Z map over there as we knew we would be back.
We would cross ref between the two. The delightful surprise is that the ACD map only had a small percentage of shops shown so as we made our way to a shop we found many unmentioned ones en route.
The smokers guide map was a little more detailed but was so small it was hard to focus on.
It was mentioned a few posts ago about the Nemesis map(showing all the shops) where can I find it?
Please would you post up where it can be located to help us staggering explorers. :D
I know what you meant by saying you feel homesick when away from the place, me too big time.
Still nice knowing we are only a short easyjet flight away. :D
Keep buying the lottery tickets as I'd love to move there

Aye, I think now that we've been once that we wont have as many problems wandering about, I hope...

In saying that, it doesn't really matter... it's not a large place to get lost in and we know a wee bit more about getting around now - looking forward to it, getting lost 'n' all :-)

I get the same feelings when looking at my pics and vids. Lucky all of you already in that area. Couple hundred and youre there. Im looking at a thousand just for airfare, not to mention the 9-10 hr flight. Was just there in March as well, looks like next March before I can be back. :(

You know, I never thought of it like that for our people in the States... man, I find it financially tricky paying for just me and the lady to go for a couple nights and that's with cheap flights and little hassle. Respect due for travelling that distance and let's hope that one day the world comes to it's senses and you don't have to make an intercontinental flight anymore to partake in a harmless practice!

Even if we legalized I would still have to fly out to be around such architecture and lifestyle. The only place here to live without a car is New York and theres just too many people for me. I loved the walking/biking way of life, and a public transport system that works wow! Another trip is priority. Returning permanently
