I was directly replying to the quote. Which said American guns don't go anywhere else. True, other countries manufacture weapons and those weapons often end up in the hands of unsavory types.....but they don't often sell them in the local mall. I was surprised myself to findout so many other political groups had been buying guns, but I was shocked to read they were often buying them across the counter. It begs the question though, how many 'small time' elements slip under the radar?.

I'm not against guns, they have their place......it's just, most of the guns sold to the average 'citizen' are completely out of place. You don't need a sledge hammer to crack open a nut and there's way too many nuts walkin around with sledge hammers.

I'm an American who lives overseas. I believe the need to remove guns from American culture is obvious for all of the reasons those who agree with this position have already put forth. This is especially the case with handguns and automatic weapons. I find it hard to place agruments for protection from wild animals, or even criminals, and the need to hunt side by side with the death by firearm statistics in the US and still choose guns. The only supportable agrument I've encountered for keeping them is so that the government won't be able to go berzerk on us because we can fight back. But, let's face it. The American government is already berzerk. And they already have tanks, fighter planes, and all kinds of other nastiness. So, in the final analysis, we are better off appealing to the conscience of our soldiers than keeping a store of weapons.

I grew up for a bit in Texas and had friends who owned many guns. We went huntin and fishin and killed just about anything that moved. After doing this one trip I became sick of all the death. The truth is that we were not protecting ourselves from anything. We were out looking for something to kill. A brother of one of my friends was killed with his dad's shotgun. His friend accidentally blew his head off. They thought it wasn't loaded. We briefly owned a shotgun for "home protection". We also had an alarm system in that house. One night, my friend and I snuck out to smoke up and while we were gone, the alarm had accidentally gone off. We entered the house quietly to face my sister shaking with a loaded shotgun pointed at us as if she expected Freddy Creuger to come through the door. That was about all the "protection" we needed and thankfully, my mother got rid of the thing.

The reality is that most Americans do not live in wide open spaces, nor is it necessary to kill animals in order to be safe from them. I still own a house in the Houston area and we have some trouble with water moccasins -poisonous snakes- but somehow we manage to solve it without killing or shooting. All it takes is some self awareness and a little respect for life, in all of its wonderous forms.
The answer is within you.

Fuckin good post mate, finally a yank with a bit of sense. I`m sick of ignorant obnoxious americans comin on here promoting their fuckin gun culture on a UK marijuana forum. I`ve been 2 america twice and hung around with guys that own guns, Its no coincidence they all had small dicks and ugly wives but thats another story. A firearm is just an extenstion 2 a guys manhood just like a 5 litre engine, if u wanna be a fuckin man join a gym or take up boxing or do something useful.

For the sake of accuracy, I feel we ought to be aware that although it has many cultural influences, Iraq is considered to be an arab country. The main language spoken is Arabic, the classic work of literature 1001 Nights traces its origin to Iraq. Some of the earliest civilizations of ancient times trace their roots to Iraq and many Biblical stories as well.

Persia or Iran has no less an illustrious history -almost totally ignored in my own pre-university history education in America- but does not have Arabic as the common language, but Farsi (Persian). Persians also have their own sense of identity.

peace -even if you feel the need to have a gun- :)
