Where would YOU go?

Post by Badfrog »

Alright, have everything booked now for trip for first week in Dec.My plane arrives at 9 a.m. I have never been to A'dam before but am very excited, and do enjoy good smoke here.My question to all of you is: If you were arriving for the first time and wanted to make your first smoke there something really to remember what shop would you visit first(only one) and what would your choice of smoke be?

From past experience: Kali Mist @ Bluebird
From reading other's tips: Annunaki @ Grey Area

I've never been to Grey Area. I'd never spent any time on the forum before my previous two trips. So, I would make this shop a priority. I really liked Bluebird and would go back for sure. What time I arrived would determine where my first stop would be.

If I was arriving at 9, I would look into the Mako Haze in the former Pink Floyd now de Dampkring. Assuming they still have breakfast.

Hi Badfrog.
First of all, enjoy your trip!
Its certainly a good question you ask, as the memories of your first coffeeshop will stay with you forever.
For a primo smoke, I'd suggest Grey Area, unfortunately their menu seems to change on a weekly basis- I was there last week, and they had no Annunaki- I got some Sweet Haze instead, and it was magnificent.
Grey Area is, however, a very small coffeeshop.
An excellent alternative is Pink Floyd, which is short (ish) walk up the Herengracht, and onto Haarlemmerstraat. This lovely coffeeshop has recently changed hands and belongs to the Dampkring people now, and therefore has some quality product- I tried Alegria, a strong Indica, that will knock you out, and I also had some Rifman Nouzha hash- again an excellent smoke.
Fortunately, you have time on your side, and I would recommend you keep your eyes on the forum to see what is happening in Amsterdam on an ongoing basis.

Be wary of something too strong after that long flight and free booze.

I thought I was strong, had a couple of morning G+Ts on the flight. Blacked out in Picassos after my first joint  What made it worse was that I was the second person in our party who had done this

Came round, threw up, had some cake and then spent rest of the day in the Greenhouse . Happy days. 8)

Where we DID go our first trip was the closest CS to our Hotel at the time ...Happy People... out near the Tropen Museum/ Ooster Park ...and were well satisfied . Where we'll go this year depends on what time we hit the streets ...
theres so many good choices ...but de Vrouw is partial to Basjoes...
as Pickapocket said ...jetlag/trip fatigue can be a factor, so just savor the arrival ...not sure where you're staying ,but theres bound to be some good shops in the vicinity...

My first coffeeshop was Amnesia and I love the chilled atmosphere there. Last time I went the Red Diesel was good (menus change) and you can't go wrong about the Grey Area advice as far as gear, but if you buy it there go out, turn right, go to the corner, turn right again and go up a block. There's Amnesia

Good call Islandgurly.
Amnesia is surely only a short blast from GA.
My first stop recently was GA, but (at 2pm?) was closed.
So I headed round the corner to Amnesia, and got some Amnesia Haze- lovely taste, lovely effect, lovely weed.
Sat outside watching the canal in the drizzling rain, getting gently soaked through, whilst smoking the first big fat joint of my trip.
Ah, lovely!

i would recommend Grey Area aswell--but i also recommend not rushing to the coffeeshop on arrival....go to your hotel, get your bearings, and make sure you have your hotel's name written down on your person in case you forget. lol
My first coffeeshop was Mellow Yellow, i purchased a gram of Mellow Haze and was well and truly happy.

First place we hit was Greenhouse Effect C/S. Mostly because it was right downstairs from where we dumped our bags

Certainly memorable, don't think you'll ever forget your first J of dutch shrubbery. Be careful for going for the expensive stuff first, start with the cheaper strains and work up - you'll end up on your ass pretty quick going straight for the 'power-gear' ;-)

Thing I remember the most though, was turning onto Warmoestraat and the smell that hit me like a wall, I'll not forget that as long as I live ... "yep, we're in the right place" hahaha...

If you arrive in amsterdam around 9am your first stop should be is the rokerij 2 at the top of singel, and your first smoke should be their white shark bio, try sitting in the front window so you can watch amsterdam go passing by.
Well that routine has done us just fine over the last few visits anyway.
Aaaaahh happy days. :D

Great advice as it really is closest and the right direction to go. OR Centraal is even easier to find from the station and always have decent smoke. I always got stoned within 40 minutes of landing. Even better is to have someone meet you at the airport with a hash filled cone.

Enjoy your trip.
