It's rediculous because you're saying that given the choice of pure weed or nothing at all 'the dutch' will choose nothing at all. Also, smoking bans are normally for public health. The 'Smoking in the workplace' is a different beast.

Anyway, it still gives a year or 2. In the meantime....in the spirit of some fun. I thought it would be a good idea for somebody (other than me) to design a sticker. Get a prize and have a buzz seeing it stuck up about town. You remember fun, right? :(

While we've got this as a sticky going, can anyone help me with a definitive list of which shops went which way in April? I know Nes and Smoking Bull went with alcohol and de Kuil went with grass but what about the others. For instance: Dutch Flowers, the Greenhouses, Grasshopper 2, Prix d'Ami, La Canna, Rick's, Wild style, Oerwoud, Hunters, Hill Street, Kashmir Lounge, etc.

Besides Nes and Smoking Bull, these 3 shops gave up their marijuana license:

The Doors on the Spuistraat.

The Bulldog on the Singel.

The Wild Style on the Oudezijds Voorburgwal.

Dutch Flowers, Greenhouses and Kashmir Lounge choose weed over alcohol. Wise choice. Peace.

You should edit the first post to keep the list up to date.

I know ricks cafe allows smoking and alcohol...

i think this no smoking ban is against our human rights anyway, non smokers shouldnt go out if they dont like it! stuff them!

if i want to have a beer in a bar i should be allowed to have a smoke with it.

My god this European blurb really p!sses me off!

Hunters have got the 2 shops on Warmoestraat, one of which sells smoke and one of which is just a smoker's bar.

This is a list of all of the café-coffeeshops (places selling alcohol and cannabis) that I can think of that existed over the past decade or so. Following the April 1st changes, I’m trying to update the website with which chose cannabis and which chose alcohol. Thanks to everyone that’s contributed already. Please help to fill in the blanks. Also, have I missed any?

Black Tiger - alcohol
Blue Velvet
Bulldog Rockshop - alcohol
Bulldog Palace
Bushdocter (Amstel shop)
La Canna - cannabis
City Hall
Dampkring
Doors
Doors Palace - alcohol
Dread Rock
Dutch Flowers - cannabis
Excalibur - alcohol
Freeworld
Grasshopper 2
Greenhouse Centrum - cannabis
Greenhouse Namaste - cannabis
Greenhouse Tolstraat - cannabis
Greenhouse Effect - always was two adjacent places so, presumably, still a coffeeshop and a hotel/bar.
Hill Street Blues
Hunters - apparently now has a bar and a coffeeshop. I’d be interested to know the addresses of the two. I believe they’re related to the Coin, which used to have a bar next door called the Sower. I don’t know how these fit in.
Kashmir Lounge - cannabis
De Kuil - cannabis
Nes Café - alcohol
Het Oerwoud
Old Style - closed
Other Place - closed
Prix d'Ami - cannabis
Rastababy
Rick's - cannabis. Paired up with neighbouring Wild Style, which is now a bar.
Rokerij
Rookies - cannabis. Also has a new restaurant across the road where alcohol is available.
Smokey
Smoking Bull - alcohol
Stones Café - alcohol
Stones Corner
Wild Style - alcohol (see Rick’s)

Only 5 coffeeshops gave up their marijuana license on April 1, 2007. Those were the Nes, Smoking Bull, Doors Palace, Bulldog Rockshop and Wild Style. The rest gave up alcohol. The Other Place is still open as a smoker friendly bar and along with Excalibur & Belmondo(not smoker friendly anymore) gave up their license to sell marijuana about a year ago.

fair enough point taken, but why would you visit amsterdam if you are a non smoker...

the main point of the coffee shop is to purchase and use weed!?!?!???

a non smoker does have the right to be in a non smoking area, but to be fair there are not many placces like this anywhere in the wonderful city of Amsterdam!

Why can't places have one smoking part and one non smoking one?
