ALCOHOL & GRASS

Post by Professor Horsecollar »

Shame about the new law. It's handy to have a brew to soothe the throat while you're sitting in a coffeeshop, but I head for a real bar when I'm done tokin' and ready to enjoy some drinkin'. For example, you can go into Hunters and blow a bone, then walk next door to the Old Quarter and hoist a few pints of the good stuff. Similarly lots of good bars around Leidseplein. I wonder about the Greenhouse Centrum- if you can sit outside at the tables and drink beer and toke - didn't someone say they bought a bar next door.

I'll try to get some more answers and observations when I'm in town next week.

I hope Greenhouse did buy a bar. It used to be one of my favorite places for smokin' and drinkin'. They had a really nice white beer on tap. Yum...

High all
Not really a bar but the sensi coffee shop in the rld that stopped selling weed years ago sells beer in cans and of course you can smoke weed there.
The upstairs area is nice with crash cushions ECT on floor. a nice place to chill for a while.
best wishes all

Upstairs in Sensi seeds is wicked, like being in a squat or something, but in a good way!!

Absolute bugger getting back up the stairs loaded with opened beer bottles though!!

Sad to say it but I'm pretty sure the upstairs at Sensi is now permanently closed, unless I'm wrong?? Anyone else know for sure?

Squat info taken from Underwater Amsterdam:
"MOLLI
The Molli is a (rented) squatters meeting place. The bar is open every evening from 9pm-1am (Monday from 10pm). Earlier in the evening, on Mondays, there's a 'Kraakspreekuur' from 7-9.30pm. And every Thursday at 7pm you can get vegan food for €2 (desert €0.50 cents extra) at Voku MacMolli. Reserve from 3pm on the day at the number below. Note that on every second Wednesday of the month there is a feminist café.
Van Ostadestraat 55 huis (676 1427)

OCCII
This legalised squat bar/club has a regular concerts (punk, hardcore, alternative, reggae, dub, experimental etc) and parties. Additionally, there's a children's afternoon every Wednesday.

VRANKRIJK
This centrally-located squat (it's near the Palace) is one of the most established in the city. The bar there is open daily and run by a volunteery collective. They have a huge information board so it's a good first stop. Additionally, they put on lots of benefits, info evenings etc. They're open from 9pm daily (From 10pm Friday, 11pm Saturday). Monday is 'Queer Night'; Tuesday is Solidatarity Cocktail Evening for ASKV; Wednesday goes candlelit with cosy music; Thursday there's a 'Kraakspreekur' (8pm-9pm); Friday is a regular bar; Saturday is an alternative club night; and Sunday is film night.

The only squat I've been to was east of the station at the docks. It's since been raided and closed. This place was smoker friendly, as it sold weed and canned beer. It was more of a rave squat. I suppose that's why it's closed. Too bad it was fun. :(

I came across some of the flyers from Afrika House, the above mentioned squat that was shut down. I thought I'd be fun to post 'em.

Sensi Seeds Coffeeshop sells bottles of Heineken & Corona beer but no other alcohol. The upstairs area was permanently closed by the city of Amsterdam earlier this year due to zoning regulations. And at least until July 1, 2008 you can smoke marijuana that you bring there.

As far as I can remember most of the smoker friendly bars all have Sky Sports don't they? On the next trip my travelling partner wants to watch the Liverpool Arsenal game that is on, on the Sunday
