Amsterdam Coffeeshops

I got back last night and I have to say...
I'm THOROUGHLY unimpressed.
I went through almost the entire list of recommended shops (Pink Floyd, De Dampkring, Grey Area, etc) and I avoided the tourist traps (Bulldog, Grasshopper, etc), I tried all of the "best" strains these places had to offer (G-13, all of the Hazes, NYC Diesel, etc) and came to the conclusion that we have better weed in the U.S.
Don't believe me? Try some of the medical strains from Northern California (the Kush and Trainwreck varieties will make you puke if you smoke too much) or some of the delicious outdoor from western New York (Real Diesel, Cindy 1, G3) . The only place that rivalled any of these was Grey Area.
The place is tiny and packed full almost always, but their Sourlope (13,00 g) and their Nederhash (15,00 g) were incredible. As for all of the others, they had decent menus with many varieties but none that touched the stuff I get out here. The hash was rediculously overpriced (I get better stuff cheaper in Cali) and many of the strains were just unimpressive overall. The only advantages were the prices and the selection. The same stuff I paid 6-15 euros g there, I pay $20 or more g here and I don't have much of a choice (until harvest season).
De Kuil was definitely my favorite hangout (we utilized their Volcano a few times) followed by Pink Floyd (now Dampkring 2), Abraxas (best brownies ever!), and Barney's (good selection, prices kinda high, they have 2 volcanos at your disposal).
Don't waste your money on spacecakes. They're overpriced and VERY weak. Go to Abraxas 2 (formerly Chocolata) and get a 2 of their brownies for the price of 1 space cake. They are very strong and tasty. As far as herbs, stick to Grey Area or Pink Floyd. The AK-47 at Smokeys was powerful (18 euros for 2 g) and the Blueberry at De Kuil was very tasty and smooth.
I do have to give mention to Softland also. It's an internet cafe as well and their White Smurf is possibly the smoothest smoke I've ever had. Their pre-rolleds are HUGE too.
Don't bother with the Haze strains that are everywhere, I tried them ALL and was disappointed. The G-13 (13,00 g) was decent, Jack Herer (6,50 g) was good, Powerplant was OK...
I would just stick to whatever Grey Area's best are and hit Pink Floyd for the rest. It will save you time and money.
I ended up going to Rotterdam after 4 days. The city is newer, cleaner, prettier, not touristy and they have A LOT of coffeeshops with great strains (powerplant, bubblegum, santa maria, blueberry, orange, superskunk, skunk 1, etc) for about 5-6 euros g and great hash (superpolm was my fav) for about the same. Go to Centrum or De Koffieshop (only ones I hit). Great service great stuff, great prices.
I will be back in december for a follow up report....
Until then, live, love and learn...

But where you live carries enormous penalties if you get caught and you certainly couldn't sit and socialise in a public location while smoking. That's what you're paying for dude... you should also consider yourself very, very luck you have access to good greens, I certainly don't and I'll bet there's millions of others in the same boat as me. If it was
only the smoking you were going for then maybe next time just spend the cash on a local holiday and take yer own shrubbery

This depends on what you are searching for. If you want the weed that smashs you after one joint, then you can find it everywhere, but what makes me always crazy is the variety like you said. There are so many sorts to try, so many tastes to taste and so many different trips to be on. That`s whats so great about the coffeeshops. Of course you can stay in your home-country and buy the weed there, but its not same for me....since I dont search for the most smashing one, but the most delicious one

thats too bad!!
but the shops you mentioned that had the best gear is where most get there gear from anyway...
pinkfloyd has the same gear as dampkring and twede kamer so they would have had the same selection..
and also what kind of hash were u smoking in a-dam?? the bubble/ice hash???? i find that the best hashes are the imports ... in canada at least we cant get half of the imports available in amsterdam.. i dunno bout the U.S but i would imagine u have the same problem as us with importing hashes from all over the world....i find the best hashes are the nepalese temple ball or a good moroccan hash... cant really find to much of either in canada...
i do agree with u taht the ice o later and bubble hash in adam is far overpriced, but at the same time.. the most expensive isnt always the best.
would love to see some pics if u get a chance!!

I always hear people complaining about quality in Adam!
Is that the only reason for coming to Amsterdam?
Stay home and smoke yer "superdupper" weed...

My thoughts exactly... I just think it's nice to be able to go check out how the rest of the world live AND get stoned legally ... there's plenty of culture in amsterdam and as much as majority of my time there was spent sitting about getting stoned, it's an experience which is more than just getting stoned.

rev, I just got back from Northern California <humbolt> and I go there because of the pot. Our friend grows as do all of his neighbors. The Pot is fantastic and they all think their pot is better then amsterdam. Im not a expert so I cant comment. I just know what gets me stoned and what doesnt. It is cheaper for me to go to CA then it is NL. Plus we know growers out there so yes the pot is cheap <free>.

Well Neldo, your partially right. In Northern Ca the DA <district attorney> flat out said in a public statement that he will not prosecute growers. With that said, its easy to get a medicinal marijuana license from the doctor <um yeah doc I have glucoma>, your set in stone. Its legal to grow up to 99 plants per person, with a harvest of every 4-6 weeks, thats alot of pot. Then multipy it by 100 people who live in your small town, they all grow, thats alot of pot. AND Noones worried about getting busted. But if you live in my state and grow one plant.. you get your car and house taken away so it really depends on where you are.

Aye, that was my point... I wasn't so much splitting hairs as to the exact location of revjinx, more of a general statement about my country and (majority of) yours

IS it really that easy to get a license for growing marihuana in CA?
Where can I read this officially? I would like to see the laws, that says it is possible to do so

You bet it is Shady. Our friend lives in a town of 100 people and 98 of them have their license.. but remember this is in humbolt county. All of California isnt that easy. I dont know where to see it but I have a copy of his license. What I would do is google Humbolt county Caiforina + medicinal marijuana license and Im sure you will find something. If I can figure out how to take his name off the license I will post a copy of it for you to read
In fact, I just found a forum like our amsterdam forum related to humbolt county.. Im sure you could find what your looking for there

you can just overpaint it with Paint, which should be on your PC if you`re using Windows.
For the Humboldt law:
I really like this, and I am very interested in this, as I don`t want to live in Germany for the rest of my live. I want to move somewhere, where the laws about marihuana are more liberal after some years of working

I remember spending much time up in this area prior to Jerry's death when we were down in the Bay for shows and remember everything to be as cattales1960 described. I'm wondering since the passage of the 1996 law, just how hard is it to get your license?
Granted this is from 2004 but if it had been amended I would think they would pull this one from their site and post a new one;
http://co.humboldt.ca.us/distatty/pdf/M ... inance.pdf
Having a 10'x10' area and 3 pounds of stuff per year would be plenty for me though!
