G'day from Northern Australia
G'day from Northern Australia
Hello, I'm John from Northern Queensland in oz.
I've been reading this forum for months now, and finally got around to joining, so I can ask some questions (if need be) about my virgin trip to Amsterdam in October 2007.
I've smoked pot for about 20 years now, just a cone or 2 each evening, and maybe a little more on weekends.
In this part of the country I've seen the price of ounces go from about $200-$300 (20 years ago) to these days being around the $350-$400 for hydro (or $250ish for bush buds).
It's nice to see that pot prices don't keep up with inflation.
Of course smoking is illegal here, but I've never been in trouble for it, mostly because I keep it low-key. The penalties start at diversion & a one hour counselling session for first time offenders, to imprisonment for intractables & multiple convictions.
Can't wait to kick back with that first filthy number in October, before taking a methodical sampling journey through each variety of pot & hash on offer. Smoking through the Volcano at Rookies should also be an interesting experience.
I've never tried mushies, so I'm pretty keen to give them a go once as well.
Cheers.

Welcome to the forum man! there is loads of great information here, keep reading!!!
Thanks for the welcome.
The NIMBIN MARDI GRASS is the festival you're referring to cheese.
The 2007 mardi grass was held early last month (May) http://www.nimbinmardigrass.com/2007/
Nimbin is a small hippy village close enough to Byron Bay (for the surfers among you). Byron Bay is in the same state as Sydney (New South Wales) @ 8-9 hour drive north along the coastal highway , but is more easily accessable by car from Brisbane/Gold Coast (Queensland) @ about a 2 hour drive south, and is a really beautiful "rainforest/mountainous" area.
The hemp olympics activities usually include biggest joint rolling competition and bong throwing etc etc, the purpose of the event is calling for an end to prohibition.
Worth noting that the Police have taken quite an interest in proceedings, and they won't hesitate to bust any indiscretions.
Tickets are sold for a number of days,
More info on Aussie pot laws can be found here (although Queensland now allows conviction free "diversion" for first time "personal use" offenders.) http://www.marijuananews.com/marijuanan ... laws_v.htm

I strongly recommend checking out S G Collins' How not to get hit by a bike and other stuff they forgot to tell you about Amsterdam, it will prepare you for what you will find as you come out of Centraal Station.
What dates in October? I'll post your trip on the October Whos In Town page.
Thanks again for the warm welcomes... I would have thought lot's of members would be aussies, with;
a)pot smoking being common, and
b) EVERY aussie seems to have an Amsterdam story.
I'm a late starter, but now having explored most of south east asia over the years, I found a way to celebrate my (a-hem) 40th birthday. i.e. AMSTER fkn DAM
The only pot I tried in S-E-A (purely out of respect for local laws and an aversion to asian police & prisons) was at a rather cheeky little pizza joint in Siem Reap - Cambodia, where they made "happy pizza". It's amazing how hard the shit hits after a few weeks off it, and I had asked for "extra" happy
.
I do remember scoffing a few Jimmy Beams that evening to compliment the really pleasent 3 hour high from the pizza.
I'll be in town going solo, from the 2nd Oct to 7th Oct & thanks for the link Fly, nice one.
I'm a good traveller/tourist that gets a buzz out of respecting whichever country I visit. I don't make a habit of tripping on my dick or making a cnt of myself. So I'm still a bit apprehensive about whether to take a mild mexican mushie trip or not.
