Need advice - First visit to Amsterdam.

Hey guys, I've planned a trip to Amsterdam in July with two friends and I need a little advice from the regular visitors. I'm 18 and have ID (passport and driving licence) but my two friends turn 18 shortly after our holiday. I was wondering if it would still be possible for all three of us to spend time in the coffee shops even though they're not 18? Do all coffee shops ask for ID upon entering the premises or are some relaxed on this procedure? If that isn't possible, will I be held responsible if we're smoking cannabis and the police find out that they‘re not 18 just yet?

This is our first trip to Amsterdam and we'd like to make it a memorable one. Please advise.

Please dont try to enter any good shops, because if the police comes, the shop will be closed down and thats now what we want, right?

Just buy your stuff and try to enter a smoker-friendly bar, should work out

Dont take the underage ppl in the coffeeshops to buy your smoke..You dont want to be one of those ppl who ruins it for all the rest...might i suggest you go and get your smoke and go to a park to smoke it and then proceed somewhere to get something to drink and or eat..With the situation in such a fragile state we need to minimize any incidents that may occur..

I agree.
Do not take your friends into any coffeeshop at all. The police are very diligent in shutting down coffeeshops that allow minors in.
Go in yourself, show your ID, buy your weed, and then go to a smoker friendly place.
Have a look at this, and hopefully it will ensure that your trip is, indeed, a memorable one.

If I recall from Chefgirl's report, the shops were pretty diligent about checking for passports. I would do what the other posters suggested.

I might do the same on my next trip, as my wife will be going. She doesn't smoke much at all, and I know it wouldn't be fair to drag her into shop after shop. So, I'll buy my stash smoke at the hotel, walking around town, on a bike, in the park, in the bar...

Is there a nice park near the centre anyone would recommend? Now that I know there are repercussions for taking an underage person into a coffee shop I have told my friends that we'll just have to find another place to relax.

Search around there are plenty of parks..You can always go to Vondelpark

hi mate, sorry to say that you will be ID'd everywhere you go

last summer me and 2 mates went, 2 of us were 18 before the trip and the other guy was 18 on the day we flew out ( quality birthday ha ha)

we got ID'd at pretty much every shop, no problem as we had ID but yeah as everyone here is sayin you should go in and buy the weed and then find somewhere to smoke.

like everyone says dont bother with ur mates!

you, yourself and anyone over 18 are legal and welcome to enter, show your id. cos you will get asked. ive been going since i was 18, and only the last few years has every shop got so strict. they really dont wana risk loosing their liscenses so will ask anyone in doubt.

you can drink once you are 16 in holland, so why not score for your mates, then all of you go to one of the many smoker friendly places, or hit up vondel park!

yeah im pretty sure,
so ur not in for a bad time. many of the smoker friendly bars will have a similar vibe to CS's. just ur mates wont be able to have that joy of seeing a menu and boxs of hash 'n' weed.

You sure, the smoker-friendly bars let 16-years old people in in amsterdam? cause when we visited Eindhoven, the smoker-friendly bar we went had a sign in front "You must be 18 to enter this bar"

I think they should reduce the age for purchasing cannabis to 16 if you can buy alcohol at the age of 16. We all know that alcohol is a far more dangerous drug than cannabis.

If the bars don't permit people who are under 18, we'll smoke our green in the park or our hotel room. We're leaving on the 15th of July and I can't wait.
