the owner is married to the guy who owns barneys so obviously they share ideas. It is a good place an all but the weed is very expensive, it is all very good quality just pricey is all. I mean I actually like Barneys I think it is a nice place it is just very popular and expensive as now is Amnesia

The owner of Amnesia (Sissy) has been dating the owner of Barneys (Derry) have been dating for several years. Last year Sissy was in a German jail and Derry managed Amnesia but Sissy is now back in charge of Amnesia.

New design and arrangement since my visit in april but even more comfortable.
Still the same good staff.
Had the Top Dawg there : a superb indica, tasty and strong indica effect 8.2/10
Also had pineapple haze (a brand new thing a the menu) and it has a nice exotic taste, smells strong as haze and good effect. 8/10
the rest of the menu seems also very nice but you have to see by yourself.

Amnesia, fucking bullshit

Post by anarchy4uk »

i just had my first trip to amsterdam, was really hyped up about it, i went out on thursday and came back about 2 hours ago, my first coffeshop was amnesia, the owner insulted me and my friends, took the piss because of how strong we found the super silver haze, then some british (i think) tosser came in and dropped off some boxes and said wat is this a fucking playground get out little poofs. This put me in a fucking shit mood for the start of my day and made me wonder if the majority of coffeshops treat there paying customers like shit and put me on a slight downer, having been round loads more coffeeshops afterwards i know that is definatly not the case, and ended up having a kick ass time.

thanks for fucking up the start of my break u assholes,

hope u go out of biz, bunch of googen-heisters

You get this in some Cs quite alot. I have been going for years but still now comments stun me. After all we are good paying customers who keep them in buisness.
at least you can tick this off your list of many Cs in the Dam to visit.

Personally not a fan of Amnesia. If you get comments which sound insulting, it is probably the dutch sense of humour which is quite dry. The Dutch are direct ( with a strange sense of humour) and will say something which can be taken to be offensive, the best bet is to laugh or smile and hit them back with an equally damning repost. This usually results in a conversation and you will probably get on with them then. It's a bit like ribbing, taking the piss out your mates but it is weird as it is a stranger doing it. i would think this is the case on most occasions not all though.

Have to disagree m8!
We all have banter when at home so we know the difference between insults and banter. I have had the banter and can come straight back at em. But i have also had the insulting comments too and beleive me if i had come back at them i am convinced they would wipe me out.
There is a big difference especially with tone of voice. :D

maybe but like i say can be very very dry. i can only go on experience and had a few comments which i have had and this resulted in being friends with these people. it was alien to me and i was like "how fucking rude" "if i was back home i'd knock his fucking head off" but a witty slagging comment back was the way to go. Maybe i have been lucky in respect. So through experience i feel the majority of comments are in fact in jest, but there are arseholes out there no matter what so i guess just go with what you are comfortable with. this is just my humble experience and am not suggesting that a fucking idiot saying stupid things is not a fucking idiot saying stupid things just that not always is this the case and offering a case for those who are Dutchmen making conversation (breaking ice) however intimidating it might sound.

Ive been reading an awful lot about the rudeness of staff and budtensers in various cs. Not impressed at all. I consider this site as the bible on cs (the forum for peoples opinions) as we are all smoke lovers. Hopefully I won't hear any of this trash talk from staff.

Never had a problem in Amnesia, never expect to either.

The ONLY time I've seen any hassle in there was due to a group of English kids who were armed with ridiculously bad fake ID's and doubtless a few "alcopops" to give them a bit of dutch courage (pardon the pun), trying to tell the budtender that he'd better serve them... "or else".

The locals in there (and a few of the more sensible punters like ourselves) watched with mild interest as they started swearing at the staff and were eventually thrown out with a few parting comments I couldn't translate very well...

I've always found that if you give a little respect, you'll get it back. Let's not forget that we're still guests in their country and being arsey with the locals is not the way to endear you to them. Now, I don't condone piss-poor behaviour from staff either, but bear in mind how many idiots they have to deal with on a daily basis - a great many of whom simply don't know their own limits and proceed to make nuisances of themselves.

You don't mention your age, anarchy4uk, or how many of you were in there at the time - is it possible that, as stew1974 suggested, you mistook their "strange" sense of humour for something more malicious?
A group of youngsters in Amsterdam for the first time doesn't always make for the most inviting prospect for the staff in a busy coffeeshop...

After a few coughs on a rather tickly spliff, I've had comments along the same sort of lines; "Ahhh.... a bit strong for you, yes?" If you take it in a good way, and have a laugh and joke with them, the chances are that you will relax and start to understand these cultural differences that make Amsterdam what it is.

And, hey... we all have off days. Kermit hits the nail right on the head...

There's plenty of places to go in Amsterdam. If you don't like Amnesia, just find somewhere that does suit your tastes!
