Hi, from a Brit in Kazakhstan

Post by SilentlyScreaming »

Found this forum whilst carrying out a little research for an upcoming trip to dam.

I first went there 2001, on my own, on the way to flying out to Kazakhstan to marry my wife. (More on that particular set of funk ups some other time, when I'm more relaxed ;) ). I popped in again on the way back, and then went in 2005 as a Birthday present from my wife.

We now live here in Kazakhstan, which means there is no smoking of anything interesting to be had; although it grows wild out here, a foreigner caught with narcotics (not much difference seen between any drugs out here) is asking to be nailed to the walls by his balls... So, in between going back to the UK to see some family and friends, I am heading out to Dam, meeting up with a good friend, and spending 3 nights there. (21st-24th September). I'm hoping to squeeze in another 4 hour stop over on the way back home.

Anyway, hope all who read this do so in good health, cheers.

Wow, now that is a quick response.

Yeah, I'd definitely agree with you on the usefulness side of things - I read through most of the posts going back to 2006 that looked interesting before joining. That wasn't intentional, I meant to check this place was not just full of school kids before registering. Then I kept saying, ah, I'll just read that thread first. Several hours later, I've got no work done, its 3.40am (GMT+6 here), but I am at least now a member :)

So who do I send the invoice to for time lost from my normal business activities?

I just bill it to the job I'm working on. You know while I'm waiting to upload/download files

I have not been a member of this forum prior to my 1st and 2nd trips. But when my 3rd comes up, I'll be ready. I did have the map on my last trip though. I don't feel I missed anything, I'll just refine my time a little more.

The biggest help for me is finding out which pot I like the most and who has it. Second I like to find a place with nice ambiance.

Following my mighty goof up the first time I went out, and the fact my wife is not coming this time, I am definitely doing a little more research this time...

OK, I'll rescind my previous query re. who to bill for time 'wasted'... this site must have saved me a good few hours of frustrating random google searches already this morning/night :)

Welcome to the forum. As you have sussed it is full of interesting detail : though I tend to forget a lot of it when I am in the 'dam , can't imagine why

Give my regards to Borat if you see him in Kazakhstan by the way

Please excuse the long delay in this reply.
Borat has not yet shown his face in this country - people over 30 wouldn't know who he was here anyway :)
We now have another friend joining us in Amsterdam, and most details sketched out roughly - see the other threads I've recently updated.
