Staying in Haarlem

Post by bungle4 »

Planning another trip for the end of the month and have decided to stay in Haarlem this time (probably the WW Sativa rooms I've heard so many good things about).

Are there any multi trip deals on the train fare to amsterdam and what time do the last trains run.

Are there good museums or similar in Haarlem as I've seen most of the ones Am has to offer.

We stayed in Zandvoort which is only 10km from Haarlem and went by train also, so I can tell you, the train goes at least 3 times in an hour and the last train comes back around 00:00, that only goes for Zandvoort, I think the last train to Haarlem goes back a bit later.
For buying food and so on go to the place where "Aldi" is, its a supermarket which is next to another supermarket, and witht that two close together you wont need anything else.
Try the red-hair and the laughing Buddha in the WW-shops, dont try the bubble-gum, its not worth the money. We liked the Indica best, because in the Sativa, the waitress didnt speak any other language than dutch and was a bit unfriendly.

Amsterdam to Haarlem, The "last" train runs at 1:27. Then first train is at 4:42 AM. Between around 5:30 AM and 12:30 in the morning there's a train every 10-15 minutes.

No real discounts on tickets. There's a special pass you can buy for discount off-peak travel that gives 40% off tickets for trains after 9AM and all day weekends, but the pass costs 55 euros. You'd have to make 12 round trips to break even. Round trip same day tickets (day return) are a bit cheaper than two one-way tickets.

Rail info courtesy of heavy Ingo-research on prev trips :)

The Frans Hals museum in Haarlem is interesting. Check it out here:

Have fun!
