next glorious trip to my adopted hometown!!

Post by freewheelin frank »

I will be in A-dam from the 21st thru the 30th of September 2007. If anybody wants to meet and discuss rocket science  I would love to...normally I just wander about for a week, talking to nobody in particular..however, I do manage to visit 20 or 30 coffeshops, some more than once! If you will be there and want to meet, let me know. :D

I have posted your mission on the September Whos In Town page. Have a stony trip.

I'll be there with two friends for the first 4 days of your stay.
Great forum name by the way. I'll be bringing my FFFB compilation book, in case you fancy re-reading any favourite editions. (I had the whole set of original comics, but lost them in one of my house moves :( Anyway, I'm getting OT here, so I'll shut up for now).

I would love to see the old comics....I have not seen them in over 30 years. Do you have a favorite coffeshop? we could meet there.

I'll make contact a little closer to the time to arrange where and when... I've got two friends meeting up with me from Britain, so I need to check what they want to do first - don't want to go double booking a certain time, as we're only there four days.
Regarding favourite cofeeshops, I truly can't remember the name of any during my first couple of trips (I got a little spaced out and stayed a few days longer than I was supposed to), and from my last trip, I can't recall the names either, though that may have been too much alcohol that time. I made a bunch of posts when I first signed up here at ACD, asking for help and advice, I'm still collating that and some other stuff; once complete, I'll post back my 'results' see if other ACDers think it needs amending, and if you are happy with the selection, we can meet up in one of the shortlisted CS....

sounds good...I like "Rookies" as an all around CS as it has plenty of seating and great kit. Sinmce I am a little older than the average traveler I tend to stay away from the trendier shops or CS that cater to a younger crowd...believe it or not I have felt a little age discrimination in some of those younger feeling coffee shops...I really like old church and the jolly joker...both are great places to watch the hazy world go by...let's make contact closer to departure and if all works out great...I don't think that we will be disappointed either way....

So, I am not the only one .....I have visited most of the coffeeshops on the ACD map and I would say that 10% exhibit some age discrimination, others are too trendy, and some just are not my cup of tea...it could be chaulked up to they are that way with everyone but as someone older I have been ignored for a younger customer...to be fair, some coffeeshops have treated me better than the younger patrons due to my age and the actions of the younger smokers...I can remember going to A-dam in 1975 and things are better for the smokers, the younger heads need to remember that we all grow up!

Thats why I hang out in Basjoe most of my stays in Dam, James and Leo always make me feel welcome as with all of their customers. Everyone is a 'beautiful lady' if female or 'mate' if male, no matter what your age.

Frank, you just may see us at the Old Church  It will definately be a hang out in the evenings, as we are staying at the Grand Kran down the street. If you see a little bald guy with a reddish goat-t and a blonde next to him..it's probably us lol. We are well 'seasoned' people ourselves.
