He may have been a little harsh, but since you've joined, a not insubstantial amount of your posts have involved slating British tourists.

I'm not saying I don't agree with you, it is just that we haven't seen a lot of your other opinions, when it comes to the nationalities of people in Amsterdam. Perhaps AL felt as though it was an attack on our nation? I have to admit, if I hadn't read all of your other posts, I would have assumed (wrongly) that you were not from Britain, and had a chip on your shoulder about them. People tend to swipe back when they feel as though they have been offended. Maybe with the passage of time AL will read your forthcoming posts, and see that you do indeed have a lot to offer this board, as your coffee shop reviews already show. Another issue for some British people is that showing pride in your nation is very easily mis understood, a lot more than in other countries. Put it this way, in England at least, if it is not sport related, if you see someone waving the flag of St George, and he has short hair, it is very easy to assume they are a thug. Compare this to other countries where showing pride in your nation is socially acceptable. Perhaps this was a general back lash that was unfortunately aimed in your direction, despite having multiple triggers?

Please don't take this as me taking a side and throwing some crap at you - I'm just trying to explain what could perhaps have triggered his comment... Hope to continue to read your posts here, and maybe even smoke a nice big fat one with you, one day :) Image

My point is, though, I do have an issue with those type of British people; they're a fucking embarrassment, and they might even cost us our trips to Dam one day, 'cos if drug tourism is going to be banned, it is only the irresponsible loudmouth types that will ban it.

So, in that respect, I very much do have a problem with UK tourists. I have no issue with national pride, but I have a huge issue with thuggery and drunken, loutish behaviour; it simply does not happen anywhere else the way it does here. I also have an issue with gobshites ruining the ambience in a coffeeshop or restaurant.

I see your point, I do, but I'm not going to start biting my tongue where idiots are concerned (just to clarfify, by 'idiot' I mean gobby wankers again). That isn't who I am.

Only by you, apparently? :? Everyone else must have got what I was saying, or I would have been jumped on by all and sundry.

You misinterpreted what I said; I meant those that make the most noise, most mess, get in the most trouble are wankers. If it was all conducted by people from another nation, I would have said, 'German wankers' or whatever; the sad fact is, all the loudest, gobbiest voices in the coffeeshops are British.

Personally, that makes me pretty embarrassed and ashamed of my fellow countrymen. Can you honestly say you appreciate these assholes when you're on holiday in order to escape all things English?

I genuinely can't believe I am having to explain myself to you... I thought this was a friendly place, and you have made me feel about 16 fucking years old :? :?

So, thanks for that.[/quote]
"thought this was a friendly place" but you call folk "uk wankers" ,not a really friendly statement
the rest is fair comment. bet its great feeling 16 again  you need not explain youself to me its an open forum with people giving there opinions how outrageous or sensible they may be. and personally ,being scottish, dont have a problem with the english and if folk annoy me in the dam they will know about it in no uncertain terms,no matter what nationality.
i know where your coming from so lets leave it at that, if thats cool with you?................................peace............................

Not a problem... I just felt a bit 'ganged up on'. I'm also deeply unpleasant to anyone that irks me in real life, matters not where they are from. Put yourself in my shoes though, to all intents and purposes, wen i open my mouth, I'm British; it would embarrass the wotsits out of me to be tarred with the same brush as some fat, pasty drunk.

I fight when I'm cornered....rest of the time I can't be bothered ;)

Glad we're cool..... I'm off for a big fattie

Grrl_Interrupted - I have to say I agree with everthing you say. I am a 41 year old Brit from London who visits Amsterdam 4 times a year and your observations are spot on.
