i'll be arriving in amsterdam 2moro night around 7.30 - 8.00pm. was just wondering if any coffeshops will be open around this time... central in particular, the one infront of the station.

another question about central; are they very strict about the passport/I.D in here? will they be happy if i have a black and white photocopy of my passport and I.D card? if not, which coffeshops will let me off with photocopies?

peace

I highly doubt any shop is going to accept a photocopy of an ID. Also, it is illegal to not carry ID on you at all times in the Netherlands. There is no reason to not be able to show real ID.

Get a carrying case of some kind to put your password in and attach it to yourself with a chain or something like that. You must have ID on you at all times and shops will check for ID and will not take photocopy's because its illegal to not have identification with you. BTW virtually every coffee shop is open at the times you mentioned. Just dont leave if in your pants and wash it like I did once. It looks pretty rough now.

MAKE A PHOTOCOPY OF YOUR PASSPORT ANYHOW JUST IN CASE SOMETHING DOES HAPPEN TO IT YOU HAVE SOMETHING TO SHOW YOUR CONSULATE OR EMBASSY...IT CAN BE A MAJOR PAIN IF LOST BUT AT LEAST YOU BACKED YOURSELF UP..HAVE FUN ON YOUR TRIP AND JUST ENJOY YOURSELF AND DONT SWEAT THE SMALL STUFF.....

You can check opening and closing times at a lot of shops websites HERE.

i'll back that up, as well as leaving a copy with someone back home, also copying credit card info ain't a bad idea either

Probably the fact that you've just turned 18 and probably don't look 50 will encourage shops to check your ID.

I have a colour scan of my passport, which I've emailed to one of my hotmail addresses. That way no matter (almost) where I am in the world, I have access to a damn good copy if my original gets lost.

Yes, you should. It is safer on your person than in a hotel room. And as others have said, you will ned it; I'm pushing 30, and I still get IDed over there, they're hot on it.

Most CS' shut around 11-12ish, some stay open til around 1am.
