august 07 grey area menu
Loverly.
Had already planned to make Grey Area my second stop after putting my bags in storage at the hotel. (First stop is to get the cash to use there.
)
Mmmmm. I want some of that, and that, and this one, and that one there, and .... what? 5 gram limit? OK. I'll be back tomorrow then.
(84 hours until I hit Grey Area and I'm already dreaming about it.)

Sorry to be an asshole, but a person can legally carry up to around 30g, but is only legally allowed to buy in 5g increments.geoffk wrote:All shops have a 5 gram limit. No single person is allowed more than 5 grams at a time.Ingo wrote:Mmmmm. I want some of that, and that, and this one, and that one there, and .... what? 5 gram limit?

Is that definitely correct? (Genuinely interested, not trying to start an argument).
I'd though the 30g limit was the old rule, but that the 5g limit applied to both buying and carrying in public, at least within Amsterdam. (Taken from various forum posts, no 1st hand knowledge, so more than happy to be corrected.)
Within Amsterdam, some shops will sell more than 5g, you just have to (politely) try your luck when they are not busy at the bud bar. Apparently some will ask if each subsequent 5g is for a separate friend.
Head on over to Haarlem, and nothing is thought of sales over 5g. Don't know if that is because the rules are actually different there, or simply enforced a great deal less (higher local:tourist ratio than in Amsterdam possibly the reason?)

Wiki says:
"So-called coffee shops are allowed to sell soft drugs openly to customers above 18 years[3], and to keep supplies greater than the amounts allowed by law for personal use, though they are only allowed to sell individual customers the amount allowed for personal use. The coffeeshops' wholesale suppliers, however, are still criminalized. In theory, the limit of the "for personal use" clause is 5 cannabis plants per person for growing, or possession of 5 grams of hashish or marijuana per household. However, to be prosecuted one would need to possess considerably higher quantities than that. An example of a sentence in 2004 for possession of 360 grams: confiscation and a fine of €750. Coffeeshops pay taxes just like any other business, though there are some special exemptions for them, mostly because they cannot show receipts for their supply of marijuana."

I guess interpret how you want to.
