Kim is a different matter but both Bush and Ahmadinejad were democratically elected. They are both populists within their own cultures and have much in common. Together they make the world a more dangerous place. If there was any chance that we could put them both into a ring and let them fight it out between themselves rather than using armies and weapons then their rhetoric might be less aggressive.

I'm not supporting Iran or the proliferation of nuclear weapons; I'm simply empathizing with the Iranian people. I can see why they would feel safer if they had their own nukes to discourage those that do from threatening them.

American meddling in Persia reminds me of the old song about the old lady that swallowed a fly (see below). They supported the corrupt Shah until he became so despotic he was overthrown by the Islamic Revolution. Then they tried to use Iraq to punish Iran. That also failed and eventually led to Iraq invading Kuwait. Now America has invaded Iraq and overthrown their one-time friend Saddam which has inadvertently made Iran more powerful. How many verses are we into this song? Will they stop before they swallow the horse?

</serious><silly song>

There was an old lady who swallowed a fly.
I dunno why she swallowed that fly,
Perhaps she'll die.

There was an old lady who swallowed a spider,
That wriggled and jiggled and wiggled inside her.
She swallowed the spider to catch the fly.
But I dunno why she swallowed that fly -
Perhaps she'll die.

There was an old lady who swallowed a bird;
How absurd, to swallow a bird!
She swallowed the bird to catch the spider
That wriggled and jiggled and wiggled inside her.
She swallowed the spider to catch the fly.
But I dunno why she swallowed that fly -
Perhaps she'll die

There was an old lady who swallowed a cat.
Imagine that, she swallowed a cat.
She swallowed the cat to catch the bird ...
She swallowed the bird to catch the spider
That wriggled and jiggled and wiggled inside her.
She swallowed the spider to catch the fly.
But I dunno why she swallowed that fly
Perhaps she'll die

There was an old lady who swallowed a dog.
What a hog! To swallow a dog!
She swallowed the dog to catch the cat...
She swallowed the cat to catch the bird ...
She swallowed the bird to catch the spider
That wriggled and jiggled and wiggled inside her.
She swallowed the spider to catch the fly.
But I dunno why she swallowed that fly
Perhaps she'll die.

There was an old lady who swallowed a goat.
Just opened her throat and swallowed a goat!
She swallowed the goat to catch the dog ...
She swallowed the dog to catch the cat.
She swallowed the cat to catch the bird ...
She swallowed the bird to catch the spider
That wriggled and jiggled and wiggled inside her.
She swallowed the spider to catch the fly.
But I dunno why she swallowed that fly
Perhaps she'll die.

There was an old lady who swallowed a cow.
I don't know how she swallowed a cow!
She swallowed the cow to catch the goat... She swallowed the goat to catch the dog...

There was an old lady who swallowed a horse -
She's dead, of course.

I beg to differ LEM, BUSH did NOT win by the popular vote. He won by his brother who just happened to be the govenor of the state Of Florida when it came down to the electoral votes dependant on Florida, well the election somehow got screwed by hanging chad.. ALso, the USA doesnt run their elections by the popular vote, they run it by electorial votes . Each state is assigned so many electorial votes, and which ever candidate wins the popular vote in that state, they win the electorial votes. See this is where it sucks. Actually Gore won the popular vote in 2000, but supposedly lost the electorial vote for Florida due to a recount and hanging chad.. do you see where we are coming from. So please all you over in the UK and other places, please realize that most citizens of the USA do not like or want Bush in the offfice. Period.. He got there illegally in the first place and for the second term, with such a raging war going on, some people were afraid to vote against him. I still think there should be a politcal class for our high school students to teach them about elections and voting before they can vote.

Quite right Catt, I stand corrected

My tongue was very much in my cheek and I was being deliberately provocative. My point was that Ahmadinejad's election was at least as democratic as Bush's. I guess I also probably use the word "America" rather freely too. My country is no less guilty.

I refer to the state, not the people. I've nothing against the American people, just the likes of Dick Cheney who seem to go unchallenged in their re-writing of quite recent history as they justify their war making.

I suppose we are all "enablers" to a point, unless we make a big enough stink.

I think it would be easier to live in a country[UNITED KINGDOM]that has a monarchy in place and just vote Democratically for parliament..At least with the monarchy in place they have a complete vested interest in the country. It's easier to believe in a Monarchy that has been in power for generations than that of an individual who may only sit for a four year term. And in that time they may just look out for the lobby interests that got them into office. As Catt said most of us here[who seem to be in the minority..kinda weird]hate everything Bush and his band of merry jackasses has done or stood for.Even though Clinton had his issues he always kept America first and foremost unlike the renegade G.Bush whom seems to think that the American military are his pawns to move about as he see's fit.

I stand corrected..I figured that having the monarchy would give people more of a sense of nationalism..I personally would rather live in those conditions more than ours..There really is no sense of who America is anymore and what it stands for has been contorted to fit the needs of who is in office...Quite sad...

Officially, true. In reality, the family have a great deal of influence. Their wealth alone would ensure this, let alone their position in society.
