Stayed at Crown Plaza for one night the first time I came here seven years ago.....
Really bad for smokers, windows didn't open and fridge full of electronically tagged munchies we wern't allowed to touch... Didn't request room service and would have lost 30 Euro deposit if even the slightest Toblerone was tampered with so that sucked.
Comfy beds though...
To be really honest as long as the beds pretty comfy, the door locks and the window opens i'm set....
Stayed in Hotel Ann Marie on last visit, a bit crap, but really cheap... There was a group of about five or six people staying there who'd loudly complain each morning that it was the worst place they'd ever stayed in and they wern't allowed to smoke etc, etc... Yet, they'd spent all their afternoons sitting in the lobby watching the olympics, hanging out there, instead of taking a ten min walk past the Van Gogh museum and checking out the city...
Nice weather too... I must have spent about half a waking hour there each day at most.... Not the best place to hang out apparently

really glad to see the hem hotel not listed here as im due there soon. i intend to upload a review w/pics if possible for future visitors as i think thats the easiest way to seperate bullshit from fact
if you say a hotel was nice and spacious thats one thing, get a couple of snapshots and people can decide if it looks right(or wrong in the case of this thread)
im a bit nervous after reading this topic hope i wont be back here to talk about my upcoming trip when i return next week

I have stayed at the Hem hotel a couple of times and got a fantastic deal there last Christmas for under £30 a night!
There are a couple of important rules to follow if you want a pleasant stay at the Hem. Firstly you need to be happy and willing to use the Tram service or rent a bike as its not central. Secondly make sure you are not booked into the Annex (this is a series of Porto cabins set up for stag do's etc). The annex looks and feels like something out of a world war two prison camp. Thirdly make sure you are not booked into an 'internal' room. The rooms with a window to the outside are the same price as the ones whose windows open out on to a corridor.
The breakfast is the BEST bit of the Hem and they even give you a bag so you can take some for your lunch!

I have been in a Hotel on Damrak the first time I was there. Unfortunately I forgot the name.
The standard of Amsterdam Hotels is lower than in the rest of Europe, but that was scary and disgusting. I would not complain if it had had a decent price... but it was quite expensive.
But with a good weed before sleeping I didn't care...
