have been to the Dam more times than I can remember and of course the last few times have not been as exciting as the first few times (as can be expected) but I still get that thrill everytime I get off the train and head into the city. Now if the only thing that you like about Amsterdam is the weed then yes you may get let down at times but for me the place is a lot more than just a legal place to smoke.

Regarding quality of smoke- I find it hard to believe that GA / DNA genetics folks are not producing weed that is to your standards....also if you are a heavy smoker then of course no weed is going to blow your socks off no matter what.

Maybe for you Mokum has played itself out or you need to space out the visits for more effect. other than that let's all chill....

First of all, I don't advertise the Nes on here..the closest I've got was updating the menu when we WERE a coffeeshop, but apart from that I only reply to other peoples post concerning it. I'm on this site for my own personal use. Our main customer base is locals, regular ex-pats and bar/coffeeshop staff..... not internet stoners. However, if you feel I'm representing the Nes in a negative manner....put a complaint into the manager.

Best selection of weed getting sold across a counter in Amsterdam is at the Grey Area, with the LA confidential being probably the best weed about at the minute...sorry, I'm just going on the word of dealers and growers in town here, so I could be wrong!. Anyway, over priced?..maybe...too small? Deffinately...but 'over hyped piece of shit' comin from a guy that get's his weed through the post and has a dire selection of locations to smoke it, and all just because ya didn't enjoy yerself in the Grey Area!......Yeah, whatever you say mate.

C'mon, how cool is it that we can actually bitch about an overly commercialized public weed selling and smoking establishment! It's kinda fun to be able to pass by a "la canna" and off to a 2e Kamer instead

...first off, the wife and I are rather lucky choosing to smoke "old school" - often and fat blunts of, er..."upper middle-class" weed that's nice on the brain & easy on the pocket (you even get that occassional 'soapy' haze or strong indica) and once & a while splurge on some 'kind bud' when something of exception crosses our path. Most of the kind that DOES cross our path are poorly cured pineapple looking buds that aren't worth the asking price so we rarely bother. Needless to say when we hit the 'dam it's ALL good (lol). We travelled from '96 to '01 six times and saw a steady increase in over-all quality in terms of more and more fluffy bud and less and less brown bud (first trip many shops had Nigerian, Durban, Jamaican & Thai and maybe 2 local green buds - that's why grey area & greenhouse took off like they did for us anyway) and, needless to say, we discovered the WONDERFUL WORLD OF HASJ .

Even with the rarity of ANY fluffy green bud at home we stopped travelling to the dam after '01 for a variety of reasons including the fact that it WAS no longer as special an experience. Had nothing to do with the weed, we just became accustomed with the town (street dealers stopped approaching us and lost tourist asked us for directions) and started to explore other vacation spots (with herb hidden in luggage). We waited too long and will be back in 32 days & counting!

Currently, the only weed in Barney’s menu under 10 Euro. Very strong, though. Very, very strong… actually strung me out a bit in the end. This WW may very be chem.-ed to hell, as has been the rumor about most of Barneys and Amnesia, and the weed was looking unnaturally green, like “glowing green.” More and more people in town seem to be sticking with Bio-organic weed more and more. Perhaps a trend?

Could it be that the alleged "lack of quality" lately has to do with amsterdam going bio and, perhaps, the herb lacks that special something that the chems provided?

Just a thought!

Hey, did I mention that the last time I had hasj 'round my way it was some supreme dark leb (my best guess based on the source) at $35US a gram and worth every penny (I bought him out every time 'till the US gov started to harrass his family and he had to stop) about 5 years ago? Hasj ALONE will keep many a stoner coming back.

BUT, I don't agree with it, 9/10 folks who sample GA's stuff wouldn't agree with it either and some folk here actually know their shit... I've personally sampled their stuff and I found it tasty, well dried and cured well. And their nepal cream stands up to the temple ball from stix or the temple ball from WW in Haarlem, so either your mates grew up in the highlands of Nepal or they don't know the difference between Coke and Pepsi! You're talking like everything they sell is utter, utter shit - do you not conceed that's perhaps ... a bit harsh? If all you go for is potency of weed, stick to mail order and save yourself the flight - it's the freedom to smoke and buy different strains (in turn different tastes, effects etc) over the counter in the company of many other cannabis tourists from different places around the globe.

Also, if you're looking for something to kick your ass I'd go indica, not sativa hazes ... i don't class those as kicking your ass, but a good indica that will have you rooted to your seat after a J ... that's my def of an ass-kicking

i have access to medicinal marijuana in canada, as well nice indoor organic home grown herb as well as some great outdoor weed. and i must say i have found comparible in amsterdam on every visit... mind you i did have to try many many strains to be disapointment once and while.. but fuck im disapointed once and while where im from with the weed i get or grow here......

i think because tehre is so much variety in amsterdam you have to look a little harder to find the gem...

i also must agree with dr gonzo that maybe after so many years its lots its flavour for ya... are u doing new things?? maybe try out some different shit .. might turn your knob a bit more so to say.. hahah

and by the way.. the nes was a great spot to get some good herb.. and i must say i cant wait to go back and bring my own while hanging out drinking some brew... nice cozy little spot

I have for the last 2 years being getting bud and hash from your own fine country and have found more variety and potency from this source which I believe to be a step above the likes of 'The Grey Area'.

Its price is also way less than half of what you pay in the 'Dam.

I also believe that the true test for smoke is to do it in your own front room with your choice of surroundings,people and music.
