30

Post by user54321 »

Feels a bit like the film '23' ... but with less nonsense about a number chasing after you

Inspired by a comment Twitch made about having smoked for 40+ years in the 'first time' thread, it got me to thinking (dangerous that, lock up yer windows and doors) ... I know alot of people who got to around 30 and decided smoking hash wasn't for them... it seems to be either just before 30, or shortly after they give it up for good...

Is there some sort of phenomenon out there surrounding the age 30 or d'ya think it's down to folk getting freaked out that they've hit their 30th birthday and aren't nearly anywhere near where they thought they would be come that time? (and subsequently blaming the hash smoking for them laying about for the last 15+ years??)

Maybe not the best place to ask this, considering there's many pot smokers over the age of 30 on this forum who're probably scratching their head and thinking "what?" but it's something I've always wondered about ... what makes someone smoke regularly for years and years and what makes someone decide after said years and years of regular use that it just isn't for them? I'm not too far away from the 'magic' number myself, think I'll just hit double time in case it happens to me

Yer thoughts....

:-)

Don't blame the hash. Never blame the hash.
For me hash was always a sort of "accessory" drug. When available I smoked it, but the weed was the regular source of inspiration. As of this day, quality hash is simply not often available in this part of the world, at least not in my circle.
As I now approach 50, I have no problem with flying thousands of miles, staying in a ritzy hotel in Centrum, strolling around the corner to the Prix D'Ami, smoking whatever I please until I'm seeing colors that aren't really there, and reflecting on the fact that despite being a career stoner I can readily afford to do this.
Good luck with that 30 thing. Toke on, worry free.

Ahh, ahh ... sorry DH, when I mention hash, I refer to smoking hash and weed... it's mostly hash we come accross here so I often find myself refering to smoking in general as "smoking hash".

DC, none of the people mentioned have or are planning children... I've been saying for a while it's like they swapped one set of clubs for another (dance/drug clubs for golf clubs ;-)). So that rules that one out ...

The only thing I can say is I'm 62 and have never even considered quitting.
To this day I don't feel addicted to weed, I just like to smoke.
I have gone for periods of time without smoking and handled it well, but prefer to smoke everyday, a couple of times a day.
Am a wake and bake sort of guy, but I have had a succesfull career and a relatively good llife. 8)

...other peoples kids. :D

Mind you, I think it has more to do with the continual hunt for crappy smoke ya have to go through, by the time ya hit 30 yer well sick of it. It would be interesting to see how many of the people that have stopped smokin, would've still stopped if they had lived here.

I started smoking more since I hit my mid thirties. Mostly due to my second trip to A'dam, my own education of various strains and medicinal purposes. I enjoy it much more and more frequently than ever. I've cut my alcohol consumption way down, in fact I'm finding drinking to be prettY damn boring. Much harder to enjoy skateboarding, cycling and snowboarding when drunk, but perfect with a nice sativa. Maybe people get a little lazy the older they get and want to be more accepted by society and a little less "deviant". Who knows, all I know is I feel much better smoking more and drinking less.

Aye, I can sorta see that one actually DC... certainly alot of the folks that stopped had bother scoring and I didn't see too much of them to sort them out. Apart from a few months last year when everybody was having problems i've not been without for about 8 years... i buy in bars though, so there's always hash laying about, even if it is shite... treat yerself to a bit of skonk on payday and just suffer the shite during the skint weeks! Sooner my plants are grown and dried the better frankly...

I must admit to cutting down a lot since my early 30s (I'm 37), first thing I used to do after work was get home skin up and smoke with house mates until bed time, things change. Now living with the Mrs, mortgaged up and the pressure of a job which needs me to be on top form (well decent-sih form) most of the time. A big (even a little) session these days leaves me very lethargic the following morning so now I'm down to one joint about an hour before I go to bed when everything else is done which suits me just fine - takes the edge off the day. Occasionally I wont even bother having any and feel a bit better for it the next day. For the record the same applies to alcohol too, none on a school night. But fuck me I look forward to my Friday evenings, warp factor eight all the way home!
