Hey skars...not sure yet where we're meeting, I'm waiting to hear back from Chilly but heck, you're more than welcome to join us!
Island gurl...funny that you mentioned Coco's Outback since the wife and I ATTEMPTED to check it out last night (in the mood for one of their meet & mushroom pies). Easy to find (right between Coffeeshop "smokey" and "bushdoctors") but I think we expected something different, especially on a Sunday night. Now the place LOOKS alot more like a coffeeshop or bar than restaurant (but SMELLS very tasty indeed), especially the smoking freiendly area which consists of maybe 2 four-seater tables, one looooong table that seats about 10 or 12, a pooltable and a couple of 2 seat tables near the bar. The staff was CRAZY hurried and when we FINALLY cornered a server she told us "just sit anywhere" which meant sit at the BIG table with the comatose stoner not saying a word or sit in the 'no toking' area. Although the smell was great it was a bit more of a frat house atmosphere (VERY loud and patrons more concerned with drinking than eating OR smoking) then we prefer and we left without eating. Let me know how the food is if you go! The wife & I might try it earlier in the day next trip out...

its bouquet sweet & pungent, its bite will roast
Coco's is great...eaten the mutliple times on both trips. Go there when you get the urge for a mean steak. They do get packed but we found it did the job when we got a lil home sick( they show american football). Can completely understand your reasons for not staying though, it has a very sports bar feel and the service isnt always great but the food is. Give it a try. Awesome job on the trip reports btw, dont know how ya do it after all that hash.
What is this made of?? Babies?!

Ok we're relaxing in our apartment on our last full day of the trip
and we're smoking a wee bit less and coughing a wee bit more! While we relax, I figure'd I catch y'all up on our next day...
SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 4, 2007
Today we're starting to show some signs of 'slowing down' and we've accumulated a good chunk of product so we're trying to smoke what we got until we get more, carefully balancing our hazes and indicas and alternating equally between hasj joints and bud blunts. Our usual routine of Betty's for coffee & juice had has happily chatting with our usual tender. Now our buddy-tender is a dutch local, born and raised, who told us how he grew up around the shops and NEVER liked the smell ("I'll never smoke that stuff" he said as a kid, lol) and we've been learning alot about local A'dam life from him. Funny, when we told him how we've been trying to figure out a way to live here (full OR part time ) for YEARS he asked the BIG question..."would you still come here if we didn't have all of the coffeeshops?". I paused and had to think about that one, but I HONESTLY had to say "I CAME for the weed, I've stayed and returned for the culture". I've never travelled to Vancouver, Jamaica or any other herb tourist location because, as we all know, there is just that special something here that allowed the coffeeshop culture to grow and flourish. Herb is EVERYWHERE, the Dutch, unfortunately, are not! And even cooler, the tender had the next day off BUT lived near by and PROMISED to meet us for coffee. Now I thought this soooo cool, even if he doesn't make it (Saturday night to early sunday morning, and all) it was nice of him to treat us as 'friends' rather than 'customers'.
Knowing that it's probably the BUSIEST day of the week we decide to go back but go early to the ever-busy GREY AREA. It's before noon and WOW, they ARE already open and ALREADY PACKED. It's so packed that the wife stays outside and sends me in alone. Ok, my ONLY complaint with the weed tourists are PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do NOT wear your backpacks in the coffeeshops...ESPECIALLY the grey area! There were at least 4 or 5 kids all together, ALL with backpacks strapped on HANGING AROUND THE BAR LINE! And, dang it, EVERY time they turned one way or the other I was seriously bonked! It was worth the wait 'cause the very happy & bouncy budtender (different from the last) presented us with SUPER AFGHANI hasj at 12 e/g and GREY HAZE for 11 e/g. This was our first 'ghani of the trip and it looked SUPREME. Man, this hasj dreamer has had his dreams come true on this trip 'cause the hash has been absolutely fucking specTACular! The super looked almost brownish, firm and fresh it fudged apart nicely. LOTS of fudgy hash going on in this town - haven't tasted a hard hasj since our first smoke of the trip. Nice stoney high but clean clean clean. We wanted a sativa high so we went with the lemony grey and, again, grey area did not dissapoint with bud. Crystally, nice cure, aroma & taste it gave us that nice sharp lung feel that you get from quality smoke!
We're meeting our buds from Bermuda via the States at 2:00 so we're now looking forward to our first Barney's eating experience. We're at the Barney's bar across the street - slick black and chrome rather elegant environment for a 'barneys"! They're already waiting, holding two seats for us on a Sunday (niiice), and spinning their own. The wife and I had broodjes (blt & caprese) for around 5 & change and they WERE actually rather good! The service was a bit painful and we wound up there for about 2 hours resulting in the BIGGEST session we've had here and even though we ate in between we leave completely annilihated! Our friends didn't have alot of cash so we smoked a good 1/3 gram of Jelly and gave them the rest (a good 1/3) for their last night in the dam.
Later that evening, maybe around 8ish, it was getting REAL busy on the coffeeshop scene in the centrum and we were just looking around for a quiet shop to grab a cafe and smoke but found none. de Koon, nope - Abraxas, nope - we started heading back, were just behind the AH on the spui where the spraypainted snake building resides and saw this red "softland - internet cafe" sign and as we got close it DID say coffeeshop painted on its facade. Stepping in the immediate two 2-person tables were available and the wife sat down while I went to order hot chocos and just check out the menu. All the bud sat well marked in glass jars behind the counter so you could get a good idea of bud before you even asked and the microscope next to the menu is ALWAYS a good sign. It was brisky busy but quiet compared to the rest of town and we patiently waited for the undecisive to finish their choice. "How's it going?" I asked..."too busy!" he exclaimed, looking tired. I ordered our chocos, told him to take his time and asked about herb selections. Here we tried their WHITE SMURF only 7 e/g and LAVENDER at the same. Both buds were nice, not GA, GH or Barneys nice but CERTAINLY did the job for 7 e/g each. However, it was the next showing that blew us A W A Y...
KING HASSAN (which I kept making everyone laugh unintentionally calling it King HUSSAIN
). I was first asking about one of the bushdoctor recommended hashes (copies on the wall) but he was like, no, you HAVE to try this. It was priced the same as the other (14 e/g) and when he opened the container that's ALL I could smell - a beautiful, delicate and exquisite aroma that cut through the smokey pot filled room! It was the fudgiest of the fudge - not as oily and dark the rifman jala and fudgier than the Rifman Malika, we took a g back to the room. Now breaking this hasj up was a pleasure! Texturally perfect, we rolled up a spliff and IMMEDIATELY it was clear: this is the BEST hasj we've smoked yet! I mean, I'm serious...it was what morrocan SHOULD taste, smoke and FEEL like. It was a love-at-first taste experience (if not at sight!) for sure as the dulcet tones of angels wafted down around me. Sh@dy, give it try my friend! We went back out to wander and, if I'm not mistaken, went right BACK to softland, smoked ANOTHER Hassan and - folks, for the first time this trip - went back to the tender and ordered ANOTHER 2 grams! We've been getting chummy with the tender - a slighty chubby, dark haired gent with a neat little goatee so we sit closer to his area rather than the door.
We go through weed MUCH quicker than hasj and even though we're breaking our alternate rule and smoking sometimes a 2-1 hasj to weit ratio we still find ourselves in need of herb to get through a Saturday night so near our apartment is:
420 CAFE. Nothing to write home about, solid but small menu, touristy crowd and friendly but not really chatty tender. We pick up our first BLUEBERRY of the trip at 8 e/g and, I'll be DANGED - It carried the strongest blueberry taste I've EVER had! The smoke was nice but the taste was AMAZING, a close 2nd to the Mellow's ORANGE HAZE.
Well, that about wraps up Saturday! Oh yeah, a couple of personal updates...
HEY Sh@dy! WE MADE IT TO THE MELLOW TODAY, AND YES
THEY HAVE PLENTY OF ORANGE HAZE & WILL HAVE IT ON SATURDAY!
Island gurl...WE GOT TRAINWRECK AT THE MELLOW! The tender warned us that it was ALL pretty much shake but we took a g anyway and WHAT a high! Man, I'm afraid of what THAT shit will be like in full blown bud form! A great, sharp lunged taste that, of course, got us baked on the spot but LEFT us baked a good hour later when we stopped to vist our buddy at softland (more on THAT later!)

Hey skars, I'm up for a smoke tonight...we're going to barney's in a bit for a t shirt and some herb (most likely 6 - 7 pm), and we'll be wandering a bit around the centrum all evening so if you'd like to meet up for a smoke later on, just let me know what time is good for you!
Excellent!!

It's 11:37 dutch time and we're relaxing in our apartment before leaving on a 3 o'clockish flight in the morning. It's nice...we're actually ready to go home (so we can save for the next trip!) having pretty much accomplished EVERYTHING we set out to and, well, we're ALMOST tired of smoking! Well...almost
Back to the report!
SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 4, 2007
We start our morning and are PLEASANTLY surprised to find our friend (err, I'll withold his real name since most budkeepers tend to use AKA's) waiting for us, this time on the CUSTOMER side of the counter. "Hey, where've you been? I've been waiting for hours!" he jokes. Feeling cocky, I turned to the female tender who we never met and was like "you let people like THIS in here?" and sat down next to our buddy. Now I really took him meeting us as a complement since he'd been up virtually ALL night (this was Sunday morning after all) and was groggy as ALL shit! Yet he jumped up and made us coffees ("these are on me") and sat back down to smokes (cigs) while we spun our own. The four of us sat & chatted for about an hour or so before our buddy had to go home and finally get some sleep! "See ya tomorrow!"
Today is the day to start picking up t-shirts and checking out ANY shops or strains that we might want to experience. Egged on by Island Gurl & Sh@dy, we're off to the Mellow to find 'trainwreck' but, alas, NO dice...we get LOST and, as we were to find out, were RIGHT aroud the corner the whole time. But, while we're heading back, strolling thru an unfamiliar neighborhood with my coffee-shop radar on high alert - we find:
THE OTHER SIDE. Funny, we know it's a "gay" coffeeshop and the first thing we notice are two straight couples taking up the first tables! In need of a fresh cafe we grab surprising comfortable, padded stools and off I go to the tender. Hey U-roy, our first choice was the LIBANON HASJ @ 10 e for 1.2g...we tried to smoke this one carefully 'cause I know how rare Lebanese is and I wanted to see if it had that special flavor that I can only describe as a halfway point from Morocco to Afghanistan. Tasted NICE - definitely NOT a maroc, nice 'buzzy' buzz as well. We also chose the HIRO CHIRAC (not sure on THAT spelling). Wow, nice bud that was almost at the GA, GH or Barney's level (obviously my fav buds of the trip!) and left us whacked! Worth checking out for sure.
Now we were off to our BIG mission of the day and our first significantly questionable coffeeshop experience...Off to the redlight, over the canals and through the hoods to bluebird and kept going straight and, viola! DE OVERKANT. Local budtender sat talking with a friend and we waited a couple of moments for conversation to subside before asking the tender his opinion. First off, the prices here are EXCELLENT! AND, lo & behold, it was sale day and we wanted to try another Afghan (only tried one so far) and TORA BORA was on sale @ 20% off its ALREADY low price of 6.5 e/g (and NOT the cheapest 'ghani on the menu, either) and when I asked for a bud recommendation he pointed to BUBBLICIOUS at 9 e/g and ALSO on sale! Now this was the printed menu, that wrote "special sale days Sunday, Wednesday and thursday (or whatever, but sunday WAS on it). WOW, this is great, and he started to ring me up saying "Afghani 4.2" and when I pulled out my wallet, apparantly showing my american drivers license inside, he mumbled "oh I made a mistake" and a moment later my total was 17.5 euro, 1 euro OVER full list price! Dang it, I REALLY wasn't in the mood to say anything and I thought EITHER way I'm getting product literately unavailable in my home town so I bit my tongue, took my change and just left. To make matters worse, the Tora was REALLY nice! Almost on par with Grey Areas Super Afghani. At least the bubblicious was only average (lol)!
As posted earlier, we headed to COCO'S OUTBACK for dinner packed with a pocketfull of tasty tid-bits! We forgot papers so we stopped by BUSHDOCTORS next door for a pack and started conversatin' with the tender (different from before but ALSO with a thick Italian accent!). He was CRAZY enthusiastic about a new icolator. Now I had **NEVER** heard about this before (and neither have some coffeeshop owners I asked), so PLEASE confirm if anyone has any info - but he claimed that THEY HAD ICOLATOR MADE IN MAROCCO!
I asked him again if it was domestic and he said NO, IT IS NOT DOMESTIC - IT IS PURE SATIVA ICE IMPORTED FROM MAROCCO and proceeded to pull out a milky-way bar slab of THE MOST AMAZING HASH I HAVE EVER SEEN. It was TRUE caramel, both in color & consistancy - and when he pulled it apart it seperated like fuck-ing TAFFY...NEVER breaking. Enthusiastically he place a lighter to the whole chunk and set it aflame - IT BUBBLED AND BUBBLED BUT WOULD NOT LIGHT!!!
Now this stuff let off a REAL maroc smell that seemed to indicate its true heritage. I had NEVER seen anything like it except MAYBE malika which WAS caramelly but NOTHING NOTHING NOTHING like this stuff. I had no plans on a purchase but blurted out GIVE ME A GRAM before I had checked the price! 15 euros a gram, my friend! Saved for the hotel that night, it took me half an hour to get the chunks pulled off the block, my finger, the table. The jelly, the rubble - NOTHING stuck like that shit! We were rewarded with a light maroccan taste and S*O*A*R*I*N*G high that easily rivaled jelly!
Back to Coco's and, as I posted before, it was way too busy in a 'bar' sense for us (the smokers share the narrow room with a pool table and bar) and, although the food gave off a DELECTABLE aroma we decided to head to quieter pastures! Maybe next time around lunch time...
After dinner we were loaded on hasj but made a quick stop nearby for some bud. First random place we hit was FREEWORLD. I was burnt so not very talkative and the tender seemed fine with that having about 4 locals sitting at the bar that he appeared to know pretty well. We picked up some "cheap" weed PURPLE HAIR for 2 g 12/e. It was COMPLETELY purple and I assume it was outdoor grown (only available in the fall 'round these parts if I'm not mistaken!) so I thought "ahh, nice mellow smoke". Now maybe it was the jaegermeister double shot I had with my beer that night but, Jaysus - I thought I was gonna have a bit of a whitey bulger on the spot! Toking it liquor sober the next day proved it pretty much WAS as strong as I thought!
Alright gang, thanks for reading and sorry for the long-winded composition! I guess the Barney's g-13 kept me going!
