oh amazing.. that answers a lot of questions at once..

but anyway, yea right now I have a plant which is about 15 inches (40 centimeters) high, and which is still on the 18h light - 6h darkness stage.. it chooses its sex and makes buds when I'll switch it to 12-12 right.. two questions arise:

1) what is the right size (about) at which I should let the plant grow before I switch it to the 12 - 12 stage?

2) I don't know whether the seed is a male or a female.. how can I know whether its a male or a female just by looking at it..? someone told me that you know its a female if it grows little red hairs on its stem when you make it choose its sex. is that true?

thanks for tha help.

Peace.

You can't tell the sex of a seed until you actually force the plant to flower. There are countless rumours attesting to early detection of a seed's sex (such as if, when u germinate, the sprout pushes out of the top or bottom of the seed it is a female, out of the sides its a male). However, only forcing the plant to flower will give you an answer as to what it is.

Let your plants stay on 18/6 for 7 to 8 weeks. This allows the plant to mature. Personally, after that length of time, I'll switch to 12/12 to see which plant is male or female. For females, look for a V shape pistils at the nodes. Males will show tiny shacks or balls as I like to call them. If you see any of those, cut it down, dry it, and smoke it, if you like. Now what you have left are females, which you can clone. After the cloning is done, and you've potted your clones, leave the light on 18/6 for the first week or so, helps establish a good root base, then switch back to 12/12 and your good to go. In 8 to 9 weeks your plants should be ready for harvest, unless your growing Sativa's, which could take an additional 3 to 6 weeks. Hope that helps. Give me a yell if you need any more help. ok, it may be because I am high at the moment, but I really need this whole thing to be explained clearly..

so:

1. how to see whether its a male or female:
I didn't really understand your describtion.. I've hardly ever seen a full out weed plant, so I don't know what the "balls" or the V-shaped pistils look like at all
is there any easier way to see?

2. the clones:
just making it clear - to make one clone, I cut one leafe from the plant in the 18/6 stage (vegetative) and plant it into soil again, right? and then a new plant will grow with the same DNA as the latter.. right?

3. harvest:
need more clarification on that.. the buds will grow.. I just cut the buds and leave the rest... I don't harvest the leaves or anything else.. jsut the buds, and put the plant back into vegetative stage for later harvest..is that right?

4. if its a male??
when I switch the plants to the 12/12 stage.. for them to show their sex.. what can I do if I end up with a male?? can I get any smoke from a male plant??

right now, its about 40 cm high (as I said earlier) and if I brush my two fingers against the main stem, I feel a little powder on the stem, which in turn smells like proper weed.. I hope this is a good sign :)

thanks for the help!

Peace.

Hi Scott

I have no doubt that there are people on this board that could give you very good answers to all your questions. I am not qualified to answer more than a couple of your questions; but then it dawned on me - you need a good book, or two.

A couple of books (or even, one good one) would answer a bunch of your questions and then, I predict, like most of us, it would spark a few new questions.

I have some books on growing, and all of these questions are answered very clearly, some with photos and diagrams.

I just did a quick check on Amazon - searching with the words - marijuana grow, and 33 titles pop up.

If money is a big problem, I may be able to loan you one of my books, so you can do some more extensive research.

hehey, another frenchy on the site :) some more cannabis reprezent from france.. good work ;)

now about the book.. definatly a good idea, money is not a problem.. nothing is a problem when it comes down to weed/smoking/growing :) just you know.. the reading part is a pain, I do enough for uni hehe :)

but then again.. yea if I think about it, I have quite specific questions that require a little bit of writing.. and then I'll have more specific questions as my little plant grows :) so decision taken, I'll buy a book.. the only thing is, while I wait for it to arrive, is ANYONE able to answer those few questions above? ;)

Peace.

For a good starter book that is divided up into easy to locate sections, with index, etc... get Ed Rosenthal's The Best of Ask Ed: Your Marijuana Questions Answered. You can get it for between $10 and $20 in paperback, its about 400 pages. It should answer all of your questions. Peace.
