Marijuana exempt from smoking ban

Post by itsmymagicallife »

The ban on smoking in cafés and restaurants from July 1 will not apply to the smoking of pure marijuana or cannabis, health minister Ab Klink has told MPs.

The ban falls under the tobacco laws and does not apply to tobacco-free products, Klink said.

Replying to questions from the Labour party, the minister confirmed that mixing tobacco with soft drugs in 'coffee shops' (where cannabis products can be bought over the counter) will not be permitted from July 1.

Staff in these coffee shops have the same right as workers in other cafes to a tobacco-free working environment, said Klink.

i guess the coffeeshop owners are sitting their rubbing their hands in glee at the extra bud they will sell as people end up using more and more bud in their joints to build the large size of joints.

Can I take a different look at this. If its all to create a tobacco free working enviroment for staff, why dont the government of this proudly liberal country accept that people smoke as a matter of choice, and it is a choice that people make to apply for a job in a cafe or bar that permits smoking. I notice how often I speak to the barstaff outside pubs, bars and cafes in London that also think the ban is crazy. (meeting outside as they smoke there aswell)

looks like 1984.

Say your a NON smoker of cigarettes( as I am) and the only person who will employ you is a Pub/Bar/Coffeeshop.
I feel as I need income I must take the job. Do I deserve a nicotin free enviroment?
I would have to say I do.

Its all Hypothetical tho, I personally dont give a fuck what you smoke, smoking ANYTHING is never good for ya.

that seems like bollocks. if you work in a car factory you risk being pulled into a machine and killed, and if the only job available to you is in the factory you could arguably need to take the job as a source of income, but not want the inherent risks.

everything has a risk. you take a risk every time you cross a street, and these choices are for the individual to make, not a goverment body.

yipiyayey! :D

@Ash333:
be happy that the dutch government isnt as dump as other governments, otherwise they would just have forbidden the smoking of cannabis as well. this way we are still able to smoke a nice joint or whatever you prefer in a coffeeshop, without being bothered.
I dont like those rules as well, since I think they are screwing our freedom, but hey, be positive about the fact that cannabis gets a special treatment :)

Many shops are just partitioning off a smoking area where staff won't have to go to allow tobacco smoking as well.
