Arrived in Amsterdam on a damp but rain-free Sunday afternoon. I went straight over to my apartment to meet Paul, the Dutch guy whai was renting it to me. He explained he had 7 apartments of different sizes - the one i was staying in was the 2nd smallest, ideal for 1 person. It was on the Reguilersgracht, not far from Rembrantsplien. Those of you familiar with the ACD map, it was opposite Barneys Lounge and down a bit. The apartment was great - warm, clean and with DVD player, cable TV all mod cons etc. I would recommend Paul and his apsrtments if you are going to Amsterdam for a decent period of time. Hers his web adress for anyone interested: www.apartmentpaul.com

Having checked into the apartment and having made a quick trip to A.Heign for some essentials, i went just up the way to Barneys Lounge. I've not been a big fan of Barneys for 2 reasons - 1 was a negative experience i had in the original Barneys some years ago and the other the blatant commercialism of Barneys - its liket the Americanisation of coffeeshops- i prefer them to keep their own uniquely Dutch identity. However, this Barneys was ok, i smoked a couple in here before going back to the apartment. Being the nearest CShop to me, I popped in here quite a few times, mainly to pick up on my way in or out. By far their best weed was the Red Cherry Berry which was a really fruity indica, a lovely smooth smoke and quite strong. They also sold Temple Balls so i picked up a bit of that.

Monday morning began with a long lie-in, followed by a trip to one of my all-time favourite c-shops, Mellow Yellow. I was pleased to see they still had Bubblegum Haze, which was good as usual. I also tried some Blueberry, which i found really disappointing - although it was quite strong, it was harsh on the throat to smoke and just not my thing. By far the best stuff I bought from here though was the Trainwreck (I went back for more the next day!) this was strong smelling indica-heavy stuff with a really nice hit - highly recommended!

After MY, I headed to another favourite of mine, Stix and bought my all-time favourite has, Nepal Temple Balls. I stayed and smoked a couple there before retiring to the apartment to concoct. The Temple Balls from Stix, was, as usual amazing stuff - a real long-lasting high. For scientific research reasons, i examined the Temple Balls next to that from Barneys Lounge. The Stix stuff was softer and squidgier and a better smoke while the Barneys stuff was more brittle and more sticky. My advice for Temple Balls - Stick to Stix!!

Another lie-in on Tuesday was followed by a trip to Albert Heijn to get some raw materials for brunch and then i had a hearty meal followed by a nice fat red cherry berry spliff - this stuff really is good. Mid-afternoon i went out and popped into Barneys Lounge again and got some more of the Red Cherry Berry, which i smoked in Bushdoctor. After that, I sat in a pub and watched the Schalke-Barcelona game, practising my Spanish with a few Uruguayans and enjoying the concept of a beer and a spliff and a game of football - works really well together - better vibe than just a rowdy pub back home in England. After the game it was back to the apartment to finish off that Red Cherry Berry.

Wednesday bought with it rain so a quick dash out to MY for some more Trainwreck was all i could manage for the morning. Once the rain eased i began to wander up towards the Centrum to find somewhere to watch the Liverpool game that night. I decided to go for a wildcard c-shop and walked into The Saint. I was immediately thrown by the entrance which had metal chains in the doorway that you had to walk through - very strange! The C-shop itself was empty and the guy seemed put out at having to serve me. They also had a strange pricing system. I bout 1.8g of Sensemillia for 13Euros and then 1.5g of Manali hash for 12Euros. I didn't stick around to smoke it there as it seemed none too friendly. I stopped somewhere (I think Kadinsky) and smoked there - they were quite happy for me to smoke and buy just a drink from them. The Sensemillia was actually really good stuff - a strong smoke, smooth and well-cured. The manali was harsh on the throat and a little rough but it was very strong and definitely got me very stoned.

Next up, I decided to follow up on one of Smoker Moby's leads and went to Greenhouse Centrum. They had sold out of Lemon Skunk but had the Strawberry Haze. I bought a gram, rolled one up smoked it and immediately went up to the budcounter and bought another 4 grams - that says it all really - the weed was excellent and a really tasty strong nice smoke.

After that i went to Stones and enjoyed the Mighty Reds fighting out a well-deserved draw before picking up some weed from Hunters - i think called Mary something?? - nothing too special anyway. I then made my way back to the apartment to smoke up some serious strawberry haze.

Thurs and Fri to follow..........................

The one i stayed in isn't on his site - i think he has 7 altogether - for some reason D, E and G aren't on his website. I definitely recommend Paul though - a nice guy too

Thursday morning started just as Wednesday had ended - with a fat spliff of Strawberry Haze. I followed that up with a pancake at the octagonal place in Fredriksplein - best pancakes i've tried - highly recommended. Suitably full, i was gonna head out towards the Leidesplein but decided i'd go somewhere nearer so had a change of heart. I stopped at coffeeshop Little(just a few doors down from Mellow Yellow). I'd been in here a couple of times before and had some good memories. Behind the counter were 4 guys, all laughing and toking on a massive reefer, creating a huge cloud of smoke. I assumed one of them must be the budtender so went up and had a look at the menu. What's good? i asked, at which point one of the guys passed me the giant spliff and told me to try some. I asked what was in it and he said Morning so I bought 2g of this Morning stuff (i think it was called 'Morning Call' or something like that) It was good stuff, a nice smoke and tasty although not too strong. I also asked about the hash and the one guy gave me a knowing smile when i asked about the Little Special. I bought 2g of that too and stayed for a good few hours smoking with these guys - it turned out one of them had agreed to helping out in the CShop till 5pm when his mate, who worked there, got back on the understanding that he could have free smokes for the day. He'd got 3 of his mates round there and they were toking away like there was no tomorrow - that be the life!!

Suitably energised, I decided to get a bite to eat so after a walk to clear my head I went to Wok to Walk and had a tasty rice dish. After a really positive experience at Little I decided on another wildcard later that night and went into coffeeshop Highway. Never been there before, I stayed for a couple of smokes and quite liked it - good music - a real eclectic selection and a good vibe in the place. I bought 1g of Cheese and 1g of Highway something - the Cheese wasn't too great, even though the budtender had said it was their best, i thought the Highway was much better - so I bought another gram of the Highway for the evening to go with the Little Special in a few hash-weed cocktails - i like experimenting with different combinations to find the best mixes, guess i see myself as a bit of a marijuana-chef!

Friday was the typical "last day in the Dam" kind of day. I was trying to make the most of my last hours here whilst fighting off the depressing feeling of having to leave! I had a smoke up in the apartment before leaving there at 12pm. I then had till 9pm to wait for my flight. I thought about a trip over to Grey Area but in the end i went ot the nearby Andalucia Lounge and made myself comfortable on the 2nd floor. From there I bought some diesel which was good stuff but i spent most of the time there finishing reading my Howard Marks Book of Dope Stories and just chain-smoking the rest of my left-overs.

Awards:

Best Hash:

1st - NEPAL TEMPLE BALLS from Stix - dark, soft and squidgy, lovely smooth high - never fails to do just the job - great stuff
2nd - a special menion for the LITTLE SPECIAL from Little - really enjoyed this find, light and soft, almost like fudge, lovely tasty smoke.

Best Weed: - Difficult one this,

1st - a three-way tie between RED CHERRY BERRY from Barneys Lounge, STRAWBERRY HAZE from Greenhouse Centrum and TRAINWRECK from Mellow Yellow. All 3 were good in different ways and were different types of high.

Best Cocktail:
The Red Cherry Berry-Nepal Temple Balls combo was awesome, although the Morning Call and Little Special went well together too.

Best Coffeeshop:
1st - Mellow Yellow and Stix are always right up there for me, Little was really friendly, but this time quite liked the GREENHOUSE CENTRUM

Good report, man. I know what you mean about The Saint. We stayed just around the corner from it a few months ago, between there and Rokerij, and felt obliged to stop in one afternoon, since it was technically our closest neighborhood shop. There was one customer at the bar, and the budtender. The weed menu was crap. I looked at it for about 90 seconds, during which not a word was spoken in the shop, no offer for coffee, nothing. There simply was no reason to stay, not even out of courtesy, since none was offered. I gave Mrs. C.J. the head-bob, and she led the way to the the little marijuana-leaf chains that overhang the door, never to return.

Thanks for the replies guys - i enjoy reading reports and tips on here before my trips so always try and do a little reporting myself.
nice reporting Matty.

Sorry Bernum, didn't take a camera and my phone camera is antiquated now and the photos are so pixely its unreal.
I gave Mrs. C.J. the head-bob
Be Careful with your word-order Jester!!! When i first read that it sounded dodgy - it took 3 or 4 readings-back to realise what you meant!!
and she led the way to the the little marijuana-leaf chains that overhang the door
So thats what they were!! - they seemed mighty heavy and inconvenient to a heavily stoned Matty on a rainy Wednesday afternoon. To be fair to The Saint, whilst i agree with your sentiments about the coffeeshop, the dope, especially the sensemillia, was actually quite good.

Good stuff! I will have to remember these places when I arrive in May. I really enjoying reading all these all these reports since I have never been to Amsterdam before. So many places to visit. I hope I get a chance to visit most of them. Thanks for the great report.

Hey Saynt, if i was you i'd note down just 3 or 4 top recommendations of coffeeshops and buds and chase them but also follow your nose and instict and try out some places off your own back. Part of the Amsterdam experience is just to wander and stumble across some coffeeshop or other and drop in - i've made some excellent discoveries that way myself.

wandering

Hey guys! I also find wandering one of the best things, go to somewhere you know is good have a smoke, get stoned then just go out into the wild world of amsterdam and see where it takes you!!!

I have also found some great shops that way!

Good report matty!
