What temperature do you run your Volcano at?

Post by Lemming »

I tend to use settings between about 6 and 9. Above 8 the flavour is stronger with a burnt tinge that often appeals to tobacco smokers. Presumably the grass would start to burn at Fahrenheit 451, the same temperature books burn at, and the vapouriser would become a pipe. My understanding is that vapourisation wouldn't occur much below about 6.

Apologies if you don't have a Volcano but, if you do, what setting do you use? Do you have any scientific perspective on what range should work best? How do you prefer the taste?

I keep mine anywhere between 5.5-6.5 in most cases.
This study, which I believe was done as testing for Volcano getting FDA approval can tell you more than you ever wanted to know.
Seriously, very informative.
As far as my reasons I don't like it to taste hot and strong, ( like I like my coffee  ) don't really think it's supposed to, is only supposed to be thc vapor you're inhaling, not other plant material along with it.
Hope this helps, after all is just my preferences, not a statement of fact.

Do you reckon 5.5 is the minimum for vaporisation of THC etc or do you think it would work even lower?

5.5 is the very lowest I would put it at. usually keep at 6-6.5 still gives some flavor and taste with out being to harsh. If it's harsh it usually means other plant materials are starting to vaporize, chlorpheil, etc.

is it better to heat the heating plate thing to the right temp and then add the weed or put the weed on as it heats up?

Heat till light goes out then put nest on and let sit for 30-45 sec., just enough to warm up weed, next couple of vaps can go on right away.
Second vape usually the best.
What I do is 2-3 heats, remove from nest ,stir up and get one more vap from it.
Most I ever do is 4 vaps from a nest and that also depends on how big you make the bag.
Best bet is to follow the instruction card that comes w/the 'Cano.
My Volcano, FatFreddie will be three years old this July, and he has worked very hard for the last three years. 8)

In my opinion twitch's advice is spot on with all my tried methods, vape between 5 and 7, 3-4 go's per chamber load depending on the size of the bag, run your weed through a grinder rather that breaking it up by hand as this exposes much more surface area, the only difference is that I stir between each bag fill as this exposes different surface areas to be vaped each time rather than vaping the same one three time in a row. Ohh and make sure your screens are cleaned often as this will allow more heat and airflow through and not strain out your system causing failure.

I perfer it to taste like vapor instead of crispy burnt tinge that lemming talked about. A common thought between people that i have vaped with, usuing my methods, is that it smells of slightly burnt popcorn, but i think they are all crazy cuz i can't make the connection

I have a digi vapo and always do my bud at 190 which I think is perfect giving me max 4 bags. Also have tried it lower in my house with the kids about and trust me you still get baked at lower temp when you can't even see anything in the bag, great for stealth vaping as there is no smell at all on lower temps but taste and high is the same. I also grind in between bags.
