Greenhouse Centrum or ...???

Post by bondtravel »

My husband and I have a seven hour layover in a little over three weeks. We land at 7:20 a.m. and I have already bought tickets to tour the Anne Frank House from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. We'll have to head back to Centraal Station about 11:30 a.m., so I'm trying to figure out how to squeeze in the all-important coffeeshop time!

Originally, I wanted to visit Greenhouse Centrum and then walk through the Red Light District, but I don't know if that's going to work time-wise. Is there a coffeeshop you would recommend maybe on the way walking from Centraal Station to the Anne Frank House?

What I'm looking for - a coffeeshop that opens at 8 a.m. (!) and sells pre-rolled joints (without tobacco in them - it tears me up). What can I say? My husband doesn't smoke, and I always relied on the boys to roll the joints for me, so that's not my strong suit. :)

Thanks!

Thanks! Looks like Barneys would be a good choice for us as it's near Centraal Station and it opens at 7 a.m. - is that right? Also, I read they no longer serve breakfast - is that true? Breakfast and smoke would be a perfect way to start the day in Amsterdam! :)

I'd skip the RLD and hit Haarlemerstraat, the street where Barney's is located. Quite a few nice shops here. I prefer the much quieter and scenic Brouwersgracht, where Siberie is located, but Barney's will help you make the most of your time. I believe at Barney's Uptown you can get breakfast. However, you'll have to buy your weed at the original Barney's across the street. Check me on the Uptown.

Seeing as ya'll are only in town for a short time, this might be a nice spot to eat and spark up your first joint. Then you'll have a nice walk through the Jordaan to the Anne Frank Huis, which I'll take over the RLD anytime. Then you'll be close to Grey Area and Amnesia. Or a slightly longer walk will take you down to La Tertulia, which is in one of my favorite parts of town.

Head east through the cool Spui area and do a circuitous route back up to Centraal. Being sure to get some edibles for the rest of your journey and then you can pass through the RLD on your way back so you can say you saw it. Whew!

you can goto barneys coffeeshop to pick up some gear... and then cross the streat and goto the barneys uptown.. which is a breakfast bar type place... you can smoke in there while you wait for your meal to be preprared... then smoke one after to help digest!

cheers

also if its a nice day.. i would suggest smoking one by a quite canal... some of my favorite memories of amsterdam are sitting on the edge of a canal and watching amsterdam go by.

Hi Bondtravel,

Welcome over from the Trip Advisor Forum, I see you found the place.

Great recommendations and info here. I'll just add that Central Coffeeshop is open at 7 am. It's a short jog to the left from Centraal Station. Then head back over the Damrak towards Haarlemerstraat.

Enjoy,
chuckje.

I'm not sure if Amnesia is open at 8am, I don't think so anyway but I could be wrong. If you did want to make a tour round the red light district then I would say stop off at The Coin on Warmoesstraat which opens at 7am - although again i'm not sure if their joints are pure (not being a joint smoker).

Personally I wouldn't walk through the RLD that early as it will be pretty lifeless and you wouldn't get much of a feel of being there...so I would recommend going the other route which people have suggested, being either Picasso or Barney's.

There is a new Greenhouse (related to the Centrum, not Effect) located in the former Blue Velvet. Looks pretty posh. Image

That's quite a walk, one thing I'd add is take a good map if you're going to walk a route like this. Amsterdam is an incredibly easy place to get totally lost and disoriented in - especially stoned and on your first trip. Believe me I speak from exprience
