Missing Amsterdam

Post by Caligula »

Once you are there it is a curse. You will only dream to be there every night. I have been bitten 6 times. Now I have to lead a regular life of trying to make money and all that.

Ask for 'political asylum' when you arrive (in Neder) and say that your country wants to put you in jail and brainwash you  . Who knows, it might even werk

After my latest trip (20 something in total) I think I'm done with Amsterdam, I do plan on visiting the Netherlands in the future but I'm going south to Maastricht next.

Is that because you've seen it all or was it something on that trip that made the cup tip over?

oh Amsterdam my lover
I came to you for my first time and you were gentle at first
as gentle as I wanted you to be until I begged for more

and you were rough. deliciously rough.

You showed me your many personalities and made me love them all.
Is it better to have known you and left you than to have never known you at all?
Dam you have destroyed me. you have ruined me for all others. I am useless.

(....call me!!!!)

A very good point you have there. I mean, will there be a time when you feel there is noting in Amsterdam for you any longer as you have simply put been there that many times that there is nothing new to see?.

With my 6th trip coming up this year I've been having the same thoughts. The biggest pull for me in Amsterdam is the coffeeshops of cause. Sure there is the RLD, but as I dont do any of the ladies there that in itself would never be a deciding factor on going to Amsterdam from even the first trip.

But I do love the scenery and looking round the fine city. Amsterdam certainly has a pull on you that most other places I've been to fail to have.

But the price of beer(not that I have to drink the beer of cause) and food etc and the poor exchange rate for going there these days may well price me out of going again for many years after this trip if ever at all again. As each and every trip has always left me needing a larger budget per day than the previous trip.

And with the changes in the coffeeshops via the smoking ban and all that. Would Amsterdam be anything like the same place 2 years from now as it used to be 2 years ago?.

Amsterdam has changed over the last couple of years and with all the new rules and such I cant see a way back to how it was.

I love Amsterdam, it will always have a special place in my heart & soul but I dont think it will ever get back to what it was.

When I first starting going it felt free but now it simply doesn't.

There's a lot of little reasons and alone they aren't enough to stop me from going but together it's more than enough.

I'm thinking if I dont go to Amsetrdam for a while I might feel differantly which is why I'll be trying other cities within the country and see how they feel.

Even Haarlem didn't feel as nice as it once was, maybe thats down to the whole Willy Wortels situation, I really dont know.

Like I said I think I'll be heading to Maastricht next and use it as a base to see some of the neighbouring countries, I know the wife would be greatful of a change of scene.
