Dutch lorries need female and immigrant drivers
27/05/2008 00:00

Dutch transport organisation head says 3,500 vacancies in the transport industry can be filled up by more women and immigrant drivers.

THE NETHERLANDS - Ger Ros, director of the Dutch transport organisation VTL, has said in a radio interview that more women and members of the immigrant community should be taken on as lorry drivers.

He argues that this is the only way to solve the shortage of transport personnel. At the moment, there are 3,500 vacancies in the road-haulage sector. Almost all lorry drivers are white males.

Ros says working practices will have to change to attract more women and immigrant drivers. In particular, this will mean more flexible hours and fewer long-haul routes.

If your genuine m8 and like Holland might be a good experience for a couple of years?. Who knows, if it works out well you might do well out of it?.

That's right, no guts - no glory. But I'm white, I wonder if that matters.
To me, immigrants have better tans.

You'll need to look for vacatures (Job offers) named Vrachtwagen Chauffeur (Lorry Driver). I have used werk.nl (CWI website) before to find work and it's fairly straightforward. Just apply via email at the bottom of each job and hope that the uitzendbureau (Job agency) can speak English, though most can. If you need any help translating just let me know cos I also speak Dutch.

PS-
If I get serious about relocating, I'd be smart enough to learn the language.
