Mushrooms - a few newbie questions

Well, we bought a few packs of mushrooms from the sirius smartshop chain. There a few experienced tripper and a few (like me) who are first timers. I swore myself to never take any other drugs than cannabis, because I cant control them. Now before I break this oath I need to know some things:

Are shrooms destroying anything in the body?
Can you controll the effect? I mean can you keep calm when you tell yourself to keep calm?
Can you get problems after taking them? Like menthal problems or a psychosis?

I have to say, I am a bit afraid of taking them, but still I want to experience them at least once.

First of, it is a very good idea that you take shrooms w. expirienced psyconauts (i.e. ppl having experinced and navigated the effects of psychedelic drugs), they will be able to guide you through the trip and help you foresee some, if not all, of the effects, as well as help you to remain calm should you begin to feel anxiety, which sometimes happens to even experienced users.

I would highly suggest that you check out http://www.erowid.org/plants/mushrooms/ , a brilliant HR site with all the information about shrooms (and drugs in general) you can handle from a neutral soruce!

Psychedelic drugs in general, and shrooms in particular, are very safe to use, with respects to any physical harm befalling you (that is, if you do no harm to yourself ;) ). Shrooms generally have little or no physically manifested effects (besides nausia with high doses, especially the dried variant), a quote from erowid: "They are among the safest drugs known to man, and have no significant long term effects on the body "

There is however the potential for shrooms to trigger or exaggerate latent psychosis or other mental issues. THis, however, is very rare, and usually associated with so called "bad trips" (see erowid for an elaboration). Depending on the dosis of shrooms taken, in my experience, they can actually be very controlable, but keep in mind this is with small doses, and be very careful, shrooms vary greatly in strenght, mexis are nothing compared to hawaians, and the legendary and elusive Azureens (sp) is more than twice as evil as the hawaii... (!) Again, browse erowid, there is a lot of quickly accesible information there.

Be carefull! You should never ever take any kind of psychedelic drug if you do not feel safe doing so, this greatly increases the risk of having a bad experience; research the subject further, know that shrooms are a wonderful and, used the right way, in the right setting and with the right attitude, generally safe drug that is very enjoyable!

Be safe, and have fun!

Azurescens are indeed at least 2x as heavy as hawaiians. I managed to get some my first time doing mushrooms in the Netherlands. I haven't been able to find them again and they really ruined me. Hawaiians feel week by comparison. Truffles make me about as high as smoking a large joint (at a much higher cost) and mexicans get me a little bit going, but still nowhere near like the hawaiians which are still disappointing compared to azurescens. Anyway, I'm getting off topic here.
What the previous poster said is spot on. Also, I strongly recommend this guide: http://www.erowid.org/library/books_onl ... ence.shtml

as someone who has shroomed many times in the past the remarks of SoenderbronX_DK are spot on. if you feel like your going to have a bad trip, then you will. have a positive attitude, do it in a place u feel safe with people you trust and you should have a wonderful trippin time. P.S. watch out how much you take the first time. enjoy

I've had a few very intense bad trips but with hindsight i'm always glad it happened, laugh about it and think its fun.

Sure it seems like the world is caving in at the time but it's good for you! Keeps you on your toes, gives your mentality a test.

I ate a pack oh hawaiins with some philosophers stones once and that really knocked me sideways - I had short term memory loss so bad that two minutes after washing my face in a basin I touched my face and thought I was sweating profusely- this made me think I was about to collapse and die. I made my way outside (rolling down the stairs) and collapsed on the pavement - the cool air was refreshing but my head was still all over the place. The bad thing was is I was staying in a bed and breakfast at the time. Intense.

Most of the time though I do them at home and giggle whilst clutching a pillow - much more peaceful

just wanted to thank you all, your info was appreciated ;)

We have done a few trip since I started this topic, and its really great. I love to trip and fell in love with it after the first one :D
I was really scared before doing it, but not we have convinced many of our friends to try them and everyone likes to trip now :D

we bought some grow-boxes and are waiting for the next crop. the first one we had was more intensive than the ones you can buy in the smartshops, I would recommend the self-grown over the ones you can buy, really.

Although I have to say I never had things like hallucinations or changing colors, its just that I feel like the peeps from "Fear and loathing in las vegas", like I can not think the right way, or lets say I think in 1000000 different ways at the same time, its a real hard time sometimes :D
I think that comes from the attention deficit hyperactivity disorder because I saw the same effect on a friend who is a bit hyperactiv himself, the last time we took them, this weekend, me and the friend were talking the whole time, just talking about whatever comes to your mind, without filtering it before saying it....the other people who were tripping with us were really fucked after a few hours, so we watched Alice in Wonderland, which I can really recommend to everyone who wants to watch a nice movie on shrooms. I mean, I have seen this movie like 15 years ago and thought it was a childrens movie, but its not, it definitely is a movie made on hallucinogens....definitely!

well...I am gonna show you some pictures of our grow-box later :)

well, for me the mexicans have always done the best job and were as well the ones I had as a firsttimer. they dont make you too hectic, give you a relaxing feeling and dont hit too hard. But thats just me, and everyone reacts different on drugs, so you better ask the guys who are working in the smartshops, try the Fullmoon smartshop near Centraal, the guys working there, really know what to eat :)

Shrooms have been known to cause minor damage to spinal fluid. Or at least the myth around them says that.

You cant really control the effect, smoking weed helps me alot. Orange juice apprently can lessen the effect. Dosage obviously contols alot of the trip experience, half a box at 1st man just to give you an idea of whats going to happen.

Ive never heard of any credible accounts of after effects, except feeling proper cream crackered.

I was exactly the same as you about shrooms, it took me like 4 trips to amsterdam before i actually done them. I waited till it was something i wanted to do. Mellow out, be in good company, with good weed and somewhere nice to sit down whether its a park or an apartment. Chew those bad boys up and just mellow out. I said this to someone before about weed, shrooms are something you should want to do not force yourself into, mellow out, focus on the moment and enjoy.

It may put your mind at rest having a sober sitter. But really do not worry dude, its not a scary thing. Its an amazing experience full of happines, insight and love. Which is probably why hippies loved them so much. If you do them, let us know how you get on, its an amazing experience that humans have a right to experience.

Happy tripping, you'll be fine.

Peace.

Sir Niall is spot on as you guys say :D i did shrooms before i ever went to the Dam but the advice is the same, you must WANT to do them, and you should have positive thoughts and be in a comfortable place.

Well man, shrooms are great. I have only done them once, in the Dam.

I ate, I think it was 5 or 6 dried shrooms. Amazingly, they lasted exactly 6 hours.

I don't scare you with any details, but I will say, they ended in EXACTLY 6 hours.

I had a great trip. it was me and my buddy in a hotel room, and we were talking about the most insane shit ever. I can't even recall, I just remember we were talking for like the first 4 hours, straight. The hotel staff probably heard us and thought we were crazy.

Overall, it was good. At the end, for me, things got a little funky. I won't go into details, but I would say, try them, be with a good person or people, and relax, have a good time.
