Where to start... actually you might get some inspiration from some of the travel-reports... I've been to the Dam 4-5 times and have yet to see a museum...

a museum, in amsterdam? really, never been to one! been 5 times in the last year, and been meaning to get to haarlem every trip. once u have ur wake'n'bake all the plans go out the window, and everything takes longer than expected. my solution, plan nothing, that way u get more done!

Go to Haarlem for a day - Costs 6euros for a return journey

Zandvoort - About 20 mile from Dam on the coast. looks like its got a nice beach, and a half-decent coffeshop called Yanks.

The Zoo is always good for a laugh. Especially after a few bongs.

Walk around the Red Light Distrct at night - its a real eye-opener for a first timer. Pretty funny shit.

Be careful you dont lose your money.

Print Out a map here - https://www.coffeeshopdirect.com/Map.html - and take it with you!! You will need it.

As for coffeeshops

Try and get to...

Mellow Yellow
Dampkring
Grey Area
Basjoes
Picassos
Rokerij
Ricks Cafe
Paradox
De Kuil.

Smoke some super silver Haze, buy some Rifman Has from Dampkrinig, get hold of some Iso-lator Hash. (not cheap)

Have a blast mate........ im sure you will. Be Careful bout bringing anything back with you. Last time i went i had a night in Manchester Cells, got a criminmal record, and had a shit with three grown men watching me.

When did you go?It was closed for remodeling in Feb.when I was there. And from what I have heard the new renovations are going to make it alot more fun.

As far as museums, I think the Van Gogh is the best by far. I went last time on a Friday nite, as they close at 22:00. They serve drinks and have a DJ. It was fun. The Hortus Botanicus is worth visiting as well. The greenhouses are fun. A trip to Vondelpark is worth it. Bikes are a must for me. Haarlem is very cool as well. I didn't think the Heineken was all that great. Check out the wind mill brewery near the Zoo, I haven't yet, but want to.

Read and heed what you find at S G Collins excellent site.

How not to get hit by a bike and other stuff they forgot to tell you about Amsterdam

What dates will you be in Amsterdam? I'll post you on the Whos In Town page.

I've ALWAYS made plans on all my trips to Amsterdam in the past. Some trips more plans than others, mainly on going to Haarlem 4 trips running and coffeeshops I've always wanted to visit.

The funny thing is that after 5 previous trips (wont count my first trip to dam as never knew of the place or sites like this as such back then lol) I've still yet to make it to Haarlem. Seems as said everything goes out the window after a joint and simply put, you dont give a shit cos your having a good time. Alough on the last trip the missing of Haarlem can in part be put down to my travel companion having overdone things on the first night and not getting back on his feet properly untill the afternoon.

But Haarlem for me is the HIGHEST priority on the nov trip this year. And I'm in no doubt I will kiss the ground on my hands and knees when I come out of the train station in Haarlem after finally making it after years of trying lol.

Seems you can never really plan to much as no matter how much you try most of it just never goes to plan at all lol.

I understand exactly.I did do a few of the things I had planned in Amsterdam but do regret not making it to Haarlem but that is HIGH priority my next trip.Which will also be longer so I will have more time and dont need to cram it all in a short time.

DC gave me this advice...

1st trip: plan on nothing and explore the city...if you make it into a museum or other sight seeing GREAT, if not GREAT. you will be so blown away by the smoke, excitement, etc. that you just need to focus on taking it in

2nd trip: plan on taking a boat ride. great way to see the city from its predominant feature (the canals). otherwise, have fun.

3rd trip: "do all that other shit"

edit: We joked about making a CD with notes describing each picture that we could sell such that people could show they did more in Amsterdam than just get hammered.
