Amsterdam won't act on magic mushrooms
Friday 27 June 2008
Amsterdam city council will not take any steps to regulate the sale of hallucinogenic mushrooms in an effort to head off a nationwide ban, news agency ANP reports on Friday.
Smart shop VLOS had urged the council to take steps, saying a total ban is 'unrealistic'.
Last year, the city's mayor Job Cohen called for the introduction of a waiting period of three days before tourists can buy mushrooms. However a majority of MPs want a total ban.

I know you're not asking for advice, but please do be a little bit careful. Mushrooms are wonderful, but make sure you're in a good confident mood and in a safe environment. You won't suffer physical health problems, but you could become frightened if you are not deliberately conscious of your mind set. Just do some research and be sensible - and you'll have a great experience, I hope.

Excellent advice, MEP! Asked for or not.

Peace.

Oh no, I'm quite happy for you to "butt in", thank you. I have taken psilocybin a few times in England (when it was legal here) and once in the Netherlands. But I have very few friends who are enthusiastic about entheogens, so it is exciting for me to discuss the topic with some one who is familiar with hallucinogenic drugs, such as yourself.
I see from your personal information that you are in Amsterdam. I am committed to using mushrooms in the Netherlands in a safe and responsible manner, in order to help preserve this resource for myself and others in the future. I would be interested to know your experience of entheogens: for myself, using mushrooms seems to be very positive for my mental health.

Taking mushrooms has often made me face up to myself or re-evaluate things in a positive manner. Anything that my mind is suppressing will rise to the surface during a trip, you can't hide from it. i also find that the day after a heavy trip I feel very creative and write a lot more. Haven't had any in a few weeks so I might be tempted soon

A few years ago, I ate shrooms, in Amsterdam. Everything I looked at seemed to glow, sparkle and glisten. I felt completely and utterly happy and content. I felt completely full of energy whilst feeling completely relaxed.
The only advice I'd give is to talk and listen to the guy who sells it you. They know what they're on about and its all appropriate and useful advice. Do it with your good friends, and try to go some place away from roads and canals, not too far from your digs, and other hazards which you may not pay any attention to when you're tripping. Wandering round is probably not advised, because you're so high you completely forget your green cross code.
On the flip side, my mate passed out in front of us (he'd been nailing the hash) and we all reacted like Dustin Hoffman in Rainman, standing around helpless to make a decision or take action. I remember it took five of us 10 minutes to decide we needed to hail a taxi, and even then being completely unable to recall the name of our digs to tell the driver where to take us.
Bear in mind that as horrific as the last paragraph sounds, its what happens every single weekend in any English town to hundreds of revellers fuelled on too much alcohol.
In short, take it in small doses, and its great. One of the most enjoyable nights of my life, in fact. All my friends who were there say the same thing.
