26th - 30th June

Post by matty »

Apologies once again as i forgot to take notes and despite my best intentions on day one, didn't keep up with the live reports. Here's my best recollections:

DAY 1:

I arrived late afternoon on Thursday and then had a bit of trouble finding my apartment, not helped by me stopping off at Greenhouse Namaste and smoking some Strawberry Haze - great stuff. Whilst there I met a couple of Brummies halfway through travelling through Europe. They seemed to be having a great time and were heading off to Germany next.

Eventually found the apartment and was a big house split into floors. I was in the basement - nothing special but does have free internet and a very basic kitchen and bathrooom. It was from www.bedandnet.com - i don't think i'd stay there again, although the other floors may have been better and the staff were pretty friendly and helpful. The location was decent (near to Stix) and fairly quiet.

Time was running away from me so i Popped into Stix and bought some Nepal Temple Ballls on my way up to MY. The Nepal Temple Balls from Stix is a 'must-buy' every trip and never disappoints!

I arrived at Mellow Yellow at 7.20pm to meet up with Kermit from ACD - planned 7.00 meet but I arrived late - no sign of Kermit. I decided to stay a while and smoke some orange haze - another long-time favourite of mine - once again was excellent. By 8.15pm, I was beggining to wonder about watching the football, so rather than staying at MY to watch it, i decided to head up to Nes so i could also have a beer. On my way out i picked up some Honey Hash.

So, up to Nes to watch the Spain-Russia game - Well done Spain - totally deserved the win for playing football in the right way. Most Dutch seemed to be supporting Spain either through dislike/rivalry with the Germans or through an empathy with their style of play - maybe a bit of both! Whilst at Nes, I tried some Gulpener (recommended on here) - I had 2 pints but wasn't overly impressed- not too bad but i prefer Amstel. Smoked some of the honey hash in Nes and it was nice - actually tasting kinda honey-like and a very smooth smoke - not strong but nice to mix with some strong weed in a cocktail.

I then had a delicious Chinese from a restaurant over by Rembrantsplein - the rice was fluffy and fresh and the sweetandsour chicken was perfectly cooked. From there i wandered over to Bluebird, where i bought some nice weed and also 2g of their excellent Indian Cream, which i remembered from my last trip. Bluebird are one of the shops that i noticed are ready for the tobacco ban - they have glassed off the area to the left as you go upstairs and the guy there told me it would be for tobacco smokers from 1st july onwards. He seemed to think they will enforce the ban strictly and come down hard.

After a visit to the night shop to get some munchies, i smoked a few and then drifted off into a weed-fuelled sleep.

DAY 2:

woke up, had a lovely strawberry haze spliff with a cuppa in the apartment and then ventured out into the amsterdam sunshine. First stop Rick's Cafe/Coffeeshop where i bought some not-bad but not-memorable weed and sat out by the canal and chilled.

After that i headed off to Pink Floyd (Dampkring2) to meet SlyCrayon and Viper from VirtualDam. After a bit of confusion recognising them (no hat or studded jacket on view!) we met up and had a great smoke together. I bought some silver haze from PF which was nice stuff. Not too happy with the layout of the new shop - its a bit too modern and clinical for my liking!
Viper had just arrived fresh off the plane so he dropped off his bags and then we headed to Dolphins

We sat downstairs at Dolphins and had a good ol' smoke-up. I think i bought White rhino from dolphins and it was damn good too. After a fair old smoke the munchies kicked in and all 3 of us were wandering about the next meal. We found a restaurant called November and I was really surprised how good the place was - nicely decorated with a modern theme but also colourful. The food was also great and lets just say the waitresses were pleasing on the eye (difficult to get Vipers attention away from them at times!). A tad expensive and you wouldn't go there every night but some real good food!

Next we trooped off to Kadinsky for an after-dinner coffee and smoke. SlyCrayon then split for the night - Viper and I then headed on to a few places and had a few drinks and smokes - i can remember going into The Winston but the names of the other places/buds etc escape me! Great night though.

DAY 3:

Saturday morning came and the exertions of the previous 2 days had taken their toll! I was due at Paradox for a 12pm meet with Sliderd from ACD but i woke up at 11.30am - schuuuks! A quick shower and an even quicker dash over to Paradox and i find Sliderd sitting outside the front. We meet up and share some tokes - i bought mexican haze and some bio hybrid. The mexican haze was excellent and surprisingly, the bio hybrid was good stuff - only 11E for 2g and i was quite impressed! After a couple of hours smokes Sliderd was clearly suffering from jetlag after a 15 hour journey so we agreed to swing by Grey Area on the way to his hotel so he could have a much-needed siesta. Grey Area was closed and there was a sign on the door saying not open till 2pm - it was 1.50pm but we didn't want to wait so said our goodbyes and arranged to meet sunday night. Sliderd was a top bloke and i enjoyed meeting him and sharing a smoke or two!

After that, on my way back towards the centre, i bumped into Viper so we hooked up. He was on his way to a meet at the DNA Genetics shop so we teamed up and eventually found the place. We stopped there for a good few hours and had a good smoke, chatting to the owner there, who plied us with some free weed. He gave me a load of thai which i began to then use as a tobacco alternative in my future spliffs. No idea where we went/what we did after that - all a bit of a blurr!! My next recollection is sitting outside Rastababy as it turned dark smoking a spliff and from there making my way back to the apartment. Everything in between is a blurr but over time may come back to me!

DAY 4:

Sunday began on a lazy tip and i never really shook off that feeling all day tbh.

I woke at 11am and began the dya with a fat smoke and a cuppa, followed by another fat spliff and another cuppa. By 3pm i was ready for another spliff and another cuppa. At 4.30pm i realised there was no milk left and i was also getting hungry so decided on a trip to Albert Heijn. I also stopped off at Stix to refill on Temple Balls - 3g more and to Greenhouse Namaste to stock up on Strawberry Haze - also 3g more. Arriving back at the apartment, i intended to make some tea and then have a shower and get changed ready to go out to watch the football. However, tea (chicken pasta) was followed by the inevitable smoke and then my missus called and we ended up speaking for ages. As i put down the phone, i switched on the TV and Spain and Germany were lined up - the Euro final was starting. I was meant to have been at Stones an hour previously to meet sliderd and viper - sorry guys if you were waiting for me - i just lost track of time. It was far too late to be heading up to Stones now without missing half the game on the way so i just watched it at the apartment - nice one the Torres kid!

I spent the rest of the evening smoking up strawberry haze and temple balls cocktail spliffs and got so so stoned!

DAY 5:

Final day in the Dam  but i'm sure i'll be back again soon

Quick clean-up of the apartment and out by 12pm. Firstly. over to Andalucia Lounge to chill - bought some AK-47 which i haven't tried in ages but was a strong powerful smoke. i like the 2nd floor at tis place - its got a kind of morrocan feel to it.

After that a fill-up at subway was followed by a visit to Greenhouse Centrum - no Strawberry haze (which i'd been buying from Namaste) so i went for the ultra haze, which was also nice. After that i thought i'd try one last trip to Grey Area, which was open so i bought some Chocolope, which was up to the usual standards. From there i picked up my bag and then headed over to Central for one last smoke - well actually 2 back-to-back smokes!! met a nice girl there who i gave the remainder of my bud too before skidaddling off to the airport!

A great trip, met some cool people and had some fine smokes! Best of all are stilll the Strawberry Haze(GH) and Nepal Temple Balls(Stix), although the Orange Haze (MY) and Indian Cream(BB) make a pretty awesome combination too!

What didn't you like about Bedandnet? I've never heard of this place, and am curious.

To be fair it was okay - not especially clean, very dusty, the kitchen was very basic - no frying pan , no utensils (had to buy plastics from AH) - nice cat though who came to visit me every day!

I have stayed in better apartments before and also at rookies hotel, which i prefer

Great read Matty, is Viper a big dude from Liverpool? If so I met him a few years ago. The leather jacket makes me think it is...Funny thing was, we kept running into each other over and over again, all over town, even in obscure, far-out places!
