It is good news abot Tobacco being 'allowed' in some places, though usually by day 2 it's pure all the way however what is the correct Coffee Shop etiquette for smoking a mixed joint - are people asking or are buttenders informing you of the do's and don'ts when entering the coffeeshop?

In some places the dealers/bar staff were informing people of the dos/donts, in other places there were just signs. A good start is to look around at what other people are doing and if in doubt then smoke pure or go outside rather than get yourself or the coffeeshop in trouble. Although i'm sure most places would just politely inform you to smoke outside if its with tobacco, its probs easiest to save the embarassment.

Called the Melkweg, where some High Times Cannabis Cups Events are being held, as usual, this year.
Was told that smoking is only allowed upstairs in the smoking lounge, or outside, and not in the main areas-bar, front area, music rooms.
Called Power Zone, where Expo will be held. Thought there would be no smoking in the main Expo area for the Cups, but not confirmed.
Will follow up with more calls to the office.

Just got back

Post by HP Dubcraft »

Hiya just got back from there, 4th visit......
nothing new to add to the list though have to say it would be best to remove ABRAXAS from the list. Thier upstairs is not a designated tobacco area, like those in Dolphins or Rusland. The staff told people to take Tobacco packs off the table when they saw them, unlike the places with tobacco rooms. The staff there are relaxed, but best not to advise people wrongly, or jeopadise the place......

Other than that, thanks so so much for the list. It set my mind at ease on the issue as i'd heard all kinds of twaddle from people, such as sealed tobacco areas with extractor fans and similar nonsense. Its not like that at all..... probably the best thing to know if you're going soon is...

YOU WILL HAVE A GREAT TIME......

Amsterdam's the nearest place to heaven on earth and you'll find a way to get high in comfort, your way... easy :D

Can't see these on the list -

Andalucia has tobacco smoking area on the 1st and 2nd floors (ground floor is pure only) They have put in a door at the bottom of the stairs as something of a token gesture :)

Rastababy - inside (bar area) is pure only - conservatory area is tobacco.

These are already on here, but I can also 100% confirm the following have tobacco smoking areas:

Bluebird
Balou
Rookies
Dolphins
Reefer

Dampkring

Post by HP Dubcraft »

Original Dampkring have no designated tobacco areas, staff very very cool, but no official allowance......

Also, not so sure about Dampkring 2 (pink floyd) was asked to remove tobacco from table in there, and saw others being asked the same.
Not 100% but it seems to be no smoking at all downstairs (not even pure) and no tobacco upstairs...
(to be fair i was particularly high on Amnesia haze and Laughing Buddha when i visited, and the staff were pretty arsey so I didn't talk to them about it)

Out of all the coffeeshops I went to, probably DOLPHINS has been least affected by the ban... I remember going there three years ago and the guy working there asked if I could smoke tobacco downstairs and pure only upstairs, not because of legality, but a kind of house rule. They still have the most comfortable sofas (what with being allowed to remove your shoes and fall asleep there if not too busy) the same menu as ever (white dolphin, northern lights etc.) and their music still utterly sucks but the staff are great and it closes at 2 AM.... By far the best 'Lets all meet up here if we get lost' kind of place for me though never my favorite coffeeshop. :D (That said, they played Stephen Kings 'IT' on their dvd player three nights in a row when I was last there, which reawakened a few childhood nightmares, so thanks for that guys) :(

In Dampkring 2 the tender told me, smoking upstairs with tobacco is okay, as long as I hide the tobacco. That seem to be the way most coffeeshops go.

Wrong closing time. All coffeeshops in Amsterdam have to close no later than 1 AM seven days a week.

Which isn't to say they ACTUALLY do close before 1AM, but get your point.

If you've got to hide the baccy they have no official license so they prob shouldn't be on the list either. The places I went with official tobacco zones didn't care less if you had baccy on the table or if you only smoked straight cigarettes.

Actually, one thing I noticed is that people would hide their baccy packs, but leave ashtrays full of torn apart ciggie butts... Surely this won't look good to an inspector. Not that I actually saw one, or heard of any.... They must exist, has anyone had any bacco inspector experience? :?
