For those of you who do not live in the promised land (hehe):

Isn't it really f00king hard for you guys when you come back home from a trip to The Netherlands? I figure that you guys smoke a lot of weed here, and how is it to come back to a place where marijuana is illegal? How do you handle that and doesn't it feel crap?

the netherlands isnt the only place to get good herb.

when i come home i always have a nice stash waiting for me...

and to cope with not being in amsterdam.. i roll big gunners mixed with ice hash and imported hash i have at home... and picture myself sitting in a coffeeshop or at the side of a canal smoking it.

another good way to cope is to find a place that brings you around the same level of peace where i live... for me its up north at my cottage.. sitting on the dock with a beer and chilling out with a big joint... i call it Coffeeshop North.. and there are no rules at coffeeshop north

Yes It does.
The obvious difference is quality. Mostly the erb here is average at best, hash even worse. The only saving grace is knowing people who grow or a very reliable dealer. Even then theres still the wait between crops and the threat of busts.
But for me, the one thing I really hate is the fact its Illegal and I have to sneak around, feeling marginalised and pushed to the fringes of society like some DRUG USER. A CRIMINAL!
For me at least, thats what feels crap.
Rant over!

My two pence

Well said.

I always miss the city after I return but no point in being bitter as I always know there will be a time when I will go again so am just grateful to have had the chance to go as many times as I have. Also I make sure I make the most of every second that I spend there and I don't have any regrets.

Saying that though since last August I have seriously cut down my smoking for various reasons, in fact since my trip in Amsterdam this past new year I have only had 1 day smoking which I never thought I would say this time last year. So that makes missing the Amsterdam herb easier anyway.

Ah okay, so obviously you guys smoke less when you are back home. it must be pretty hard the first few days; since you have been smoking at least 2 or 3 grams a day in Amsterdam.

What if you get caught with grass in the UK?

i know that it is different n every state in the united states, like you only get a fine in California etc.

I always have some at home for when i come back, (i used to bring a lot back with me! but not anymore  )its shit that we dont get the choice like you get over there, but ive been getting my hands on some pretty good Kali Mist, Blueberry, Jack Herer, White Widow, and some shit i dont know the name of but still pretty fucking lethal over here.

Dont get me wrong, i miss the city as soon as i get to the airport to return home. But like Valo says, its good that we can go a few times a year living so close....

Its the hash that i miss the most...

since i arrived, i've been smoking less than in hawaii because it's BETTER here! i would have to say approximately ratio 1:2 so the 4g of maui-local grown v. 2g hawaiian haze > amsterdam wins **** plus it's so cheap here.

with airlines shutting down (esp. maui routes), the island's market for weed shot up a bit due to shipping.

but i have to admit that livin on an island like maui makes up for a LOT... toking from my deck with panoramic views of the pacific ocean and the islands of molokai, lanai, and kahoolawe...

haha, solution is 5 months each place and save a couple months for Whistler. I WISH.

u lucky bastards who live here :x

At least 2 or 3 grams? I smoke more than that a day in the Burgh. I guess its closer to 10 or so in the dam.

As for getting caught, in my experience nowt! I just got it taken off me and a stern warning. This was over 5 years ago though. I aint been caught since then.

Like Axeman said though, Solids, are in general quite rubbish here and thats what I miss when I'm leaving.

P.S I never come home to nowt, that would be torture

The worst thing for me is I regret never making the trips I could have during the years when I had the chance. I mean I never really went more than about once every 9 months when at the time I could easily have gone several times a year when single!.

But now I've a steady gf and a baby plus money issues etc I have next to no chance of going but wish I was there every couple of months or so!!!!!.

To be honest I dont have the desire or want to smoke when at home as crazy as it sounds when thats 1 of the reasons I have for going to Amsterdam in the first place. Of cause the cannabis alone is'nt the only reason I goto Amsterdam. As simply put I just love the city as there is so much to see and do there. Plus I never bother with the rld services either!.

When i come home i feel crap but its not because of the weed! Its coz i miss the country. To be able to walk the streets without fear of being stabbed, mugged or shot is very heart warming. Being able to smoke Bud out there is a bonus and i would say i smoke less out there than i do at home.
As for being busted! Well its happened alot to myself but i dont really care a quick caution maybe a look at my house to make sure i have no more and off you go! The Cops Suck and So does our Govement!
WE NEED TO SMOKE MORE GORDON BROWN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :(

of course its hard...
going from smoking in glass bongs and volcano vaporizer, smoking the best hydro organic sativa weed Adam has to offer, to smoking avarage hash at best that gives a crappy indica stone in a plastic bong.
well, every1 can see the difference.
this is exactly the reason i hate my country.

I think the hardest part for me has always been the wait 'til the next trip...

This last year has been very hard financially - mortgage has gone right up and with all the other bills increasing at the same time, it's been tough... My first visit of 2008 will be September 5th - 8th with some very good company, but I had hoped to make it over many more times before this... I couldn't resist booking another flight when I saw a ridulously cheap deal from BMIBaby, so I'm following that up with a second trip later the next month - October 20th - 23rd. Somehow between now and then I'll scrape together enough funds to pay for my excesses (which will be worse as it's currently a solo mission!)

The highlight for me is always getting that nice, cheap flight and heading for the relaxed atmosphere of the 'Dam. The choice of weed and especially hash is fantastic, even though I have some pretty phenomenal weed to smoke back here - a little bit of a change is always nice, I think, and I do like to try new things and check out coffeeshops I've never seen before. It's so quick to get to the 'Dam for me (sorry all you guys way over the pond!) - it actually takes longer to get to the airport from my home than it does to complete the flight! If you can get the best deals on the flights over as well, then you're laughing. I'd never even consider a holiday in the UK now as it's cheaper to fly to Amsterdam than it is to travel around here...

This time round it will be pretty much the same routine but with a side-trip out to Haarlem to spend the day getting baked at Willie Wortels Sativa (which willl hopefully have re-opened by then) - one of the biggest attractions has always been the way you can just head into a coffeeshop, buy a couple of grams and chill without any worries from the law or the idiot yob types that frequent the pubs and clubs over here. Maybe it's just that I'm getting old, but I actually prefer to grab a bottle of wine or a few cans from the supermarket and drink at home these days rather than risk the punch-ups that seem to spoil most of the "nightlife" over here.

One thing I've never seen in a coffeeshop is a fight. Not once. That's gotta be a plus point, eh?

I'm in the same boat as axeman - I miss the hash.

I do love the whole Amsterdam experience not just the smoke. Maybe I'm different when I'm in Amsterdam but people just seem more friendly than here in Cali.

Perhaps Cali is the 2nd most smoker tolerant place on the planet so getting smoke is not much of an issue. Plus, possession is a $100 fine. It's great because there is no need to be paranoid.

Now if we can only pass the new initiative to make smoke available at stores selling alcohol. ;
