Going a bit off topic here guys but would a 2000watt patio heater be any good as a grow lamp since i got rid of all my equip a few years ago and would like to give it a try again

You need light as well as heat to grow, I can't imagine for 1 minute a patio heater could grow weed very well if at all.

Where i was thinking of growing has a skylight above for natural light its the heat i was wondering about soz should have been clearer is it too hot the lamp i mean???????

Apparently, that gritty substance on the weed could be dry cement powder. When some of these criminal gangs (In London most of them are of Vietnamese origin) use rented accommodations as grow-houses they leave opened bags of dry cement around the rooms. The cooling-fans blow this shit around in the atmosphere, clinging to the buds and adding weight. Sounds very unpleasant. But, yes, this is what happens in a black market. Greed, Greed, Greed...

Yeh man!
This has been going on for a long time now. When i used to buy a bud of the dealers it would like nice and crystalised. Until it goes under the scope then you can clearly see its been messed with. The dealers hated me getting the scope out and started getting moody with me. Now i trim a m8s and get free bud out of it. cant be bad.
although the best bet is to grow your own nice organic crop and stop buying the grit shit to put them out of buisness.

Right on Kermit. If we alll started growing and quit paying these criminals it would be a small step towards making this world a slightly nicer place to live. When you buy it from an illegal operation you really have no idea what kind of scum-bags or other crimes by proxy your financing.

Np kermit m8 i'm in southern ireland and get about 13 hrs of daylihgt at the moment the window is south facing so if the sun is out i get it all day.the room i'm thinking of usein is about 6'x6'

Yeh just checking as i live in the middle of england and would not bother doing a sun blessed grow this time of year. But if you have got plenty of sun you should be good.
For heat you could try one of them greenhouse heaters (From garden center). Dont think they cost much to buy or run.
