I quite fancy buying a vapouriser. I’ve got a so-called “Mini-Vaporizer” but it’s really no more than a hi-tech bong. The best I’ve tried is the “Volcano” which is brilliant but extremely expensive.

Does anyone know what is in the Volcano to justify the price ? Why has nobody reverse engineered and cloned it? Which vapouriser do you recommend?

Years ago we used to do “hot knives”, which is a very crude form of vapouriser. We would skilfully remove the bottom from a glass milk bottle (I was quite good at this!) to act as a funnel. Two knives with heat-proof handles would be heated using a gas cooker, then a lump of hash would be squeezed between them inside the milkbottle. The bottle would fill with a mixture of vapour, smoke and hot air that we would inhale.

Did anyone else used to engage in this lung-ripping activity?

I still use this technique on the rare occassions when i can get my hands on some hash.

The quality of hash play a vital part in good quality hot knives - if that doesn't sound obvious!?!?

What i'm saying is that I tried the hot knife method with some bog standard english soap bar - it worked but I would have been better off crumbling the lump of hash into a pipe or bong in my opinion

However I tried the same method on a piece of Afghani black I once 'forgot' was in my other pair of jeans on a return trip from Amsterdam - this time it was awesome ~ a big thick black cloud of smokes releases from the lump of hash and a hit through a bottle neck puts you horizontal for a good hour!

Interesting that you didn't get on with the Vapir and prefer the Verdamper. From what I've seen the Verdamper is a heat-gun style device and therefore, on the face of it, less sophisticated than the Vapir or Volcano. Maybe the low-tech version works better then?

There is a version of the Verdamper that is a heat-gun style device, but we have the one up from that!

It has an electrical element, which heats up fairly precisely to the 200 C that weed is meant to vapourise at. It is extremely reliable, and we have only burnt the weed a couple of (desperate!) times.
Um, just a bit of further info about the process... The vapourising process can only happen in a fairly tight temperature band (apparently) of about 190 C - 210 C, so having quite precise equipment is definately important. Another thing to note is that you have no way of absorbing the vapour, but as you hold it in it cools, and gradually turns back to pure THC oil. As this settles on the tissue in your lungs it is absorbed straight into the blood stream (thus the quick hit).
Also, as THC is an expectorant (de-congestgent) (spellng!?) it can actually help to clear shit off your chest if you are using it without tobacco and without the carsinogens that go with burning. Thanks to my husband for the science bit there.

Eagle Bill the father of vaporizers is often at the Sensi Museum giving free vapo hits. Many of the coffeeshops offer a vaporizer for use. I think the volcano that fills the bags works best. Try some Amnesia haze at Amnesia thru a volcano for a god like experience. Vaporizing is a great way to get stoned, but it pays to understand the entire concept to get the most out of your stash. http://www.eaglebill.com/

I've already asked the makers of the Volcano to send me a sample to test. Maybe I should contact the makers of the Verdamper too.
I live near Bristol so not too far from Brum. I may well take you up on your generous invitation sometime.

It's brilliant - very easy to use and efficient. It is rather expensive though.
I'll put some more info on the site soon (if we survive the testing!).

I got my Volcano a few days after Christmas this year, and I love it. My lungs feel so much better now, I try to smoke out of the vape as much as I can. The nice thing about it is that you can re run the weed after you vape it. After a nice session I put the brown cannabis reminance into a jar and when I am out I put in a few mint flakes with the brown or "dirt" as i like to call it, and vape it up. It works like a charm. It been really convient living in a dorm because so many people want to try it that I get alot of dirt. In a few months ive got over 65 grams.
I truly recomend vaporizing to everyone, its worth the money to save your health.

Yeah, I save the brownish hash for the rainy days… I do find you can over do it though and the weed will go black… I think this means the weed has been burnt and therefore the combustion process has occurred and the vape is acting more like a bong at this stage… I reckon, but as I’ve said before all science info from me could be entire crap, but I’m having a go. I love introducing people to using the vape and it seems you’re doing a pretty good job of spreading the word yourself!

The only vaporiser I have ever tried was in Pink Floyd coffeeshop, the young Dutch budtender was more than happy to set it up and show me how to use it - but I had already endulged in a slice of special cake, cup of special tea and several small bags of weed through the house bong; so I can't really judge the strength of a vapo hit as I was pretty much 9 miles high all day long !!!

As said before though, staying at the Greenhouse Effect at the end of May so will be putting their volcano to good use for sure !!!
