Hotel Vijaya - any good?

Yeah man, it'll be epic . One of my mates from n'cle, in his 40's, used to grow out a fair bit. Last time we were in 'dam together was 2003, haven't seen him in about 3or4 years. The other two are from round here, both in their 20's. Alan's been over with me 3 times and Luke's a noob who smokes his body weight at home, i've been on at him to go for years. Looking forward to him doing double takes for the first few hours. However, none of them drink much so this might be my most sober trip (yeah right, t'nes every night hopefully )
As for indian, bit partial to a tikka pathia myself, though i imagine most of my munching will be done around kolksteeg, consisting of brown bread and black angus beef.

I have a choice of Vijaya or Hotel Royal Taste. I am thinking Vijaya because its cheaper and they have breakfast. Is there any reason to stay at Royal Taste. I haven't seen any reviews about Royal Taste. Thanks

jstang - I've had my two stays here at the Vijaya this year now and both were fine...

First trip (over the ill-fated 420 week) found myself on the top floor with a private bathroom, but located across the corridor. A bit odd I thought, but it had it's own key, so I could leave my stuff in there with no worries of someone else borrowing it...

The second trip had me in a room I've used a few times now - again, nothing spectacular, but very functional. Smaller room than the one in April, but that's because the bathroom was inside the room! A little more convenient when you need to use the toilet in the early hours of the morning though!

I didn't sample the breakfast even once on my last trip - mostly down to oversleeping, but I've never had any complaints with the food there, and considering the price and location, it's hard to go wrong if you want a cheap, centrally located room with private facilities and free breakfast...

I've never even heard of the Royal Taste, so I can't comment on that, I'm afraid. I always stick with what I know nowadays... I'm in Amsterdam again in September with a mate, and if the Vijaya wasn't fully booked up I'd be there again. Instead we've got a twin room at the Frisco Inn on Beursstraat - €260 for an ensuite room for the 3 nights and €5 extra if you want breakfast... We'll see how it compares.

Almost forgot - on my last visit, the room had been recently equipped with a nice new LCD tv with built in DVD player - not a massive 46" or anything crazy - just a small little flat panel jobbie, but less likely to do you damage if you accidentally knock it off it's stand when you stagger into your room...

Wow, glad i found this thread, there's a group of 5 of us sharing a room for 3 nights in januay.
Booked this hotel as it was cheap, only 360euro's total through a hotls.nl and a couple of the crew wanted the cheapest place possilbe.
Until reading the above comments I have been a bit worried that it was going to be a propa hole, after reading the reviews on the hotel on the web site i booked with, but it actualy sounds ok.
will have to but ask about the smoking in room never been a problem on any previous trips in other hotels
can relax again now!

ive stayed there 6 out of 11 trips only stayed else where cus there were full, no complaints since the smokin ban i always ask can we smoke? and always get told yes its amsterdam lol gotta love it im there mon day cant w8

we use to stay here, but have now found Hotel83, which is better, the rooms a much bigger, en-suites are better etc etc.
