Cooking with Cannabis - Cannabutter

Post by Lemming »

Cannabutter

Eating cannabis is a very effective alternative to absorbing it through your lungs. The only problem is that you don’t get the instant hit that inhaling delivers. Whereas smoking is almost as quick as pumping THC straight into your bloodstream, after eating, the effect creeps up slowly.

Cannabis doesn't degrade with heating so it’s easy to use it in cooking. It doesn’t taste very good though. It’s generally necessary to disguise it with strong flavourings.

A better method is to exploit the oily nature of the active ingredients in cannabis (the cannabinoids) by extracting them into "Cannabutter". The method is quite simple:

Boil up a mixture of grass or ground-up hash with water and butter for at least 20 mins, then stick it in the fridge until the butter has solidified into a dirty-looking layer on top of the water. Chuck away the water and use the butter to make your cakes.

I love cooking with "green butter" as i call it. Nothing brightens up my holidays like a nice tasty pumpkin pie made with green butter..... thanksgiving will never be the same 8)

Lemming.. you left out one step that i find important. After boiling your water/herb/butter mix, strain out the vege matter to prevent any little chunks from making their way into the finished butter. I just wrap cheesecloth over the mouth of a jar and pour the mix through. Then squeeze all the water/butter out and toss the soggy mess into the trash.

The only problem with this is I find the taste hard to handle and just as hard to disguise (cinnamon is the closest flavour that works). Not quite as bad as magic mushrooms, but still not quite the same as a fruity lungful of Blueberry weed :D

When the butter is hard I would spread the whole lot on the smallest piece of toast possible and wait for the magic to happen 8)
~ Is that a grinder in your pocket? ~

For those of you who live in England Jane Asher chocolate brownie mix or chocolate fudge cake is well worth trying … just add the weed to the mixture. I was once told (by a member of her staff) that she gets many letters from people who use her products for this purpose. If in Amsterdam 'Basjoe’s' does some excellent rainbow space cake (made from weed not solids).
