Hi guys,

I'm going to need to hook myself up with a mobile phone when I land in Amsterdam. What do you suggest is my best approach?
I would prefer the cheapest Nokia I can get, along with a pay-as-you-go type call credits where you purchase from a supermarket etc. and activate the credits. Are these options available in NL?

Thanks for your advice!

if you have a phone already you can just buy the SIM chip on pay as you go.

i don't know about prices, but in the uk they are around £5.

There are many, many phone outlets and different carriers as well in Amsterdam. Some shops are for a certain carriers and others sell phones for many of the them. Pre-pay is available from many phone companies; with phones, in a large price range. But as Ash said, you can easily find a SIM card for your phone. Shalom.

I found Lebara payg the best while I was there. They have really cheap rates for international calls as well as local calls

Thanks guys.

I should mention that I am coming from Nth America, and I just sold my Nokia 1600 which was a dual-band phone on the 850 and 1900 bands, which means that it does not work in Europe. So I will need to buy a base model phone again.

What's the equivelant of Walmart in NL? After doing a little search, I found these to be the cheapest phone prices so far:
