Black is beautiful

Until 26 October 2008 the Nieuwe Kerk will present the exhibition ‘Black is Beautiful, Rubens to Dumas’ Many great masters included black people in their art and this fascination will be illustrated in the 135 paintings, drawings and manuscripts from domestic and foreign collections.

Black is Beautiful includes, among others, a unique oil study by Rubens, an intimate drawing and etching by Rembrandt, paintings by Jordaens, Mostaert, Breitner, Jan Sluijters, Karel Appel and Marlene Dumas. Together, the works provide an image of the changing role of black people in Dutch art and culture.
