Fluo is 130 a night (as you can see in the link it's actually a 3 person room).

I really sympathise with you across the pond folk, hotels have gone up about 5 fold for me in the last 20 years making trips much more expensive than they used to be but for you guy's it must cost a fortune :(

Oh well, 28 days to go :D

thanx for sharing

unfortunately, hotel costs are really the least of my concerns if planning a trip to the Dam. even with an average of 100 EU a night it (but much less at a hostel, which ive stayed at and would again) comes out to about 400USD for 3 nights, pretty much the same cost as any decent hotel here. the thing that makes the trip impossible is the airfare. my first trip in Jan of 01 i paid 350USD for a roundtrip (return ticket as u guys say). my second trip in Jan of 04 i paid around 425 USD, and now theres no way to get one for less than 500USD and thats off peak times and off peak season. on average the cost now is about 800USD from NY, unless off peak as mentioned above. that cost is just crippling, especially if i want to bring my wife :(

and those of us that are past the mountains and another different pond...it cost $2000 for a return ticket...and our dollar isn't that much lower than the american dollar...costs way too much for the average wage earner.

propbably about 2300-2400 for a standard economy return...cheapest being about 1800, plus departure taxes and such..
oh yeah Australia... and yeah those prices are from Sydney, i think it's a couple of hundred dollars less if you're travelling from Perth(West coast)...
not sure though, don't really want to look it up cause it's painful thinking of spending all that dough.

i spose so... 8)
still off topic...one of my friends has had a rough time of late..+.he's never ever had a job or anything....so another friend and me are gonna go halves in buying him a ticket to Euro for our already planned trip next year....camping and budget stuff so we can shout him...so i've now put it in my head to think that it costs $3000 instead of 2ooo just to make myself feel better....hope that makes sense and sorry for the continuing off-topicness.

Hey Bernum take a look at this web page for some early bird deals from Aus;

http://www.bestflights.com.au/ns/flights/earlybirds/

Accommodation costs are the real killer with the Aussie $ copping such a flogging of late.

Rookies - smoking rooms

I stayed at the Rookies over the New Year and although the hotel is over the Coffeeshop, no ashtrays were in the room, as it was when I stayed last time. I did not formally get round to asking if it was ok to smoke and just opened the windows to be sure.

This is a great little place albeit a bit pricey but does anyone know if it Officially OK to smoke in the rooms, I don't like sneaking around in Dam with a joint

Anyone stayed in either of these before?

Definitely ok to smoke in the rooms as ashtrays were provided in my room during last year. Housekeeping would come as well and would always provide a new ashtray while neatly putting my pipe and left over bags neatly on the side of the desk.

Yes that was true last year at the Rookies dizz hizz - anyone got an update as I am guessing the policy has changed very recently?

did their smoking policy change? because i went after the smoking ban and still had no problems...even sparked a few on the patio outside with NO problems.
