Is a smartshop a comfortable place to trip?

Post by Happy User »

I’ve been in the forum for a few weeks now without posting a really stupid question, so here goes: Is a smartshop a good place to trip? Although I have used mushrooms many times, I have never used them inside a smartshop.

I know from experience that mushrooms should be taken in a safe and familiar environment. Occasionally I took mushrooms inside my comfortable London apartment, when mushrooms were still legal in the UK. I would certainly never take mushrooms while wandering the streets of Hackney at night, on the other hand.

For comfort and safety, a few years ago in Amsterdam, my friend and I chose to use our hotel room when tripping on mushrooms. The hotel room gave us a sense of security, easy access to food, toilets, our own music, etc. At the same time, however, the room felt a bit dark, colourless, boring, and claustrophobic.

Many people suggest Vondelpark. But Vondelpark is far away from my hotel, it is a rather public place, and it is not at all familiar to me.

Next month in Amsterdam, I have a number of concerns about tripping inside a smartshop. My friend and I would have to trip next to strangers, which would be a new experience for me. Also, I wonder how I can eat my favourite foods, listen to my favourite music, find the toilet, be comfortable, etc. I do understand that a smartshop (like Kokopelli) might sell tea. But since a trip can last five hours, tea seems an insufficient comfort.

(Incidentally, I wonder how smartshops can make a profit by selling mushrooms for just 15 euros, while I spend five hours lounging in their high-rent property?)

Finally, I am concerned about walking back from the smartshop to the hotel, possibly at night, possibly while still tripping. It doesn’t seem safe and comfortable to do so.

On the other hand, I suppose an advantage of tripping inside the shop is that the staff are experienced and can advise people during their trips.

Please forgive my ignorance; I would be grateful for your advice.

Smartshops unlike coffeeshops are only in the take away business. I don't know any that provide seats or refreshments or that even have a public toilet. Some are smaller than your hotel room.

There's a smartshop that has a "tripping" room, but I can't remember which
one it is.
Last time I just tripped around the RLD. What a trip. (get it?, humor) 8)

Conscious Dreams Kokopelli claims to provide a comfortable atmosphere in which to trip, but that's what I'm sceptical about. I haven't seen it myself yet.

i would either stick to your hotel room for the majority of your trip, and then head out to not so busy bar or lounge...

maybe even goto a smokers lounge.. like lost in amsterdam or something. there u can get any drinks you want, they play decent music sometimes and you can smoke ur brains out in there.

i would start out in your hotel tho... get the trip started on the right foot.
have ur music goin, smokes ready to go and some munchies if you can actually get them down while u trip. tehn when you get bored.. head out and find something new to do.

I've done shrooms quite a few times now and all the best times I've had have been outside in a comfortable environment. Go out to the beach at Zandvoort and eat them there, guaranteed a good time. Either way, I sort of disagree with some of the people who say you should stay inside your room for very long.

Get out and explore! You'll discover some amazing things.

have fun

the smartshop chains usually all have tripping rooms. I saw different rooms (dont know which shop it was though) and I would definitely say it would be a cool experience to trip there. And its the safest place you can think of, since there are only experienced trippers around you. I would do it :)

My advice is to go to vondelpark to trip, nice & quiet, lots of greenery, my best trips have all been outdoors & surrounded by nature. Or as bushwalt said, go to the beach for a trip, either would be a good choice.

Tripping at the windmills would be pretty interesting, well somethings got to make them interesting? Surely?

No, I am joking, I do like the windmills, it was just they didn't live up to my preconceptions, so I got disappointed.

Is it just me?

Mostly take away, we rook the country side bus tour to Volendam and it was a blast. I do well on shrooms in these situations. Its a lot of fun for me to be outside in nice weather about an hour after first starting to trip . I like to be inside when it first kicks in and then go out. Depends on what you like. I also don't mix my weed with my shrooms, each to their own but I like the shroom only experience. Here is a case where more is not always better.

Thank you for all your advice, which was all very good. Conscious Dreams Kokopelli offered a large and comfortable tripping lounge, which I used. It would have been good to walk around more, as in nature, if Vondelpark were not so far. Certainly it was better than staying inside the hotel room, as I did last time while tripping. What sh@dy said about being surrounded by experienced trippers was certainly true: everybody there, both staff and patrons, were positive people. Thanks again for all the advice.

What kind of mushrooms did Kokepli have and what kind did you get? Did they have differnet box sizes (so many grams for this box and more grams in this other box)

I purchased and consumed two boxes of Hawaiians, which were ten grams per box. My friend purchased one box of Mexicans, which was thirty grams. I don't remember the exact price, but it was reasonable. There was also a 'medium' strength, Ecuadorian or something, which we didn't try. It's all psilocybin though, isn't it? My trip was merely visual, not spiritual, so I probably should have taken a little bit more. Kokopelli was great.
