I was hoping someone who has been there recently would mind sharing the cost of the train ride from the airport to Central Station per person?
Our apartment company offers a taxi service from the airport to our apartment for EUR 40. If the train is slightly cheaper I would much rather take the train for the experience (art work..).
we are staying with www.amsterdam-accommodation.nl
They gave us a great rate of EUR 600 for 7 nights in January for 'centre 1' a one bedroom apartment. Tough to beat the price!! And if you look at the pics it looks like a great place in the heart of the city! That price is the total cost. For two people thats similar to a hostel rate for 7 nights!
Thanks in advance for sharing the cost of the train!![/url]
take train or taxi?
There is a new combo ticket. Taken from another post:

Starting July 23 there is a convenient ticket for tourists available that combines admission to tram, bus, metro in Amsterdam, AND the train to the airport.
The ticket is a test, and is a cooperation between the GVB (the Amsterdam public transport authority) and NS (the Dutch Railways).
The 'Amsterdam All in 1 Travel Ticket':
- contains a return train ticket between Schiphol Airport and Amsterdam Central Station
- covers all trams, buses, night buses and metro lines in Amsterdam
- is only for sale at the Holland Tourist Information desk on Schiphol Airport (across from Arrival Hall 2, open daily from 7am to 10pm)
- the ticket will be for sale from July 23 to October 31 2008.
You can choose between tickets of:
- 24 hours: € 12,95
- 48 hours: € 17,00
- 72 hours: € 19,70
- 96 hours: € 22,40
The new combined ticket is slightly cheaper than buying the tickets separately, and very convenient for visitors to Amsterdam who arrive at and leave from Schiphol Airport.
If you don't travel by plane, the GVB also has easy to use travel cards for 1 to 4 days, without the Schiphol return ticket (see here for more info).
More information about the 'Amsterdam All in 1 Travel Ticket' is on this website.

thanks for the fast informative response..!!
i see it says "- the ticket will be for sale from July 23 to October 31 2008."
we will be traveling in january but if this is still around, there is lots of value in this..
Because we will need a train ride to the city and then a return 7 days later I don't think this will cover the return fare, correct?
I appreciate the info geoffk!!
could someone give the 'one-way fare' or 'round-trip fare' if they sell them returning a week later.
