HASJ DREAMER - Travelogue August 24 - 29

Post by HasjDreamer »

OH YEAHHHH...Dang, it's good to be back AND to be here in the summer (first time - closest the wife and I got before was June 2000). Having landed a new job we decided, on 10 days notice, to book a trip "home". Strangely enough, we managed to score the Global Fusion apartment at Greenhouse Effect for the time and got a half-way decent round trip fare so off we went!

After a long flight we arrived SUPER early at Schipol, like 6:45 am and were at central station before 8. Problem was, being Sunday, none of the money exchanges were open yet (the GWK anyway, the only one I trust) and I didn't have time to exchange some before I left so we were, essentially, broke.

Heading right towards the Greenhouse Effect for check in the dude at first wouldn't let us in (we're closed) and when I told him we were checking in he gave us the customary shit about us looking "shady" so we began to joke and the trip was off and running! Having worn my GE t-shirt on the flight over I happily flashed their logo and got shouts of approval for "representing".

Kind enough to take our bags and offer us free breakfast at 9 we headed back to Central Station to wait out our time. Before we headed to the station we wandered around to let it all sink in. Chilly and gloomy but none the less beautiful, we wandered to the damrak (GWK closed), Spui (GWK closed till 10). Loaded with euro we headed to the GE for our first smoke of the morning. We greated Laura (our hotel contact) who reminded us about the discount next door so we settle down in front of the big open window and I make my first choyce of the trip: Ok, since I'm typing at Softland smoking a spliff typing I don't have the name (will come) but it was 10 e for 1.1 grams, their 2nd most expensive Maroc (the other was like 14 e/g) and came recommended. We got it for 8 e for 1.1 grams with a big ol thank you for the discount. It started off stiff but quickly became pliable with some finger squishing.

Alright, before I go any further I got to mention my disdain for the smoking laws, in particular for mixing. A hot topic for sure, and I DON'T smoke butts at home or abroad but love to mix tobac with my hasj and smoke backwoods sweets with my herb. Having an apartment and the ability to smoke the woods outside I dídn't want to be obvious and smoke a "blunt"in a coffeeshop but thought I'd try my hand at the mix.

Sitting at the window I noticed a little bowl of "mix"in front of us and some on every table. The ever-present sad cigarette trying to drink coffee with a red line through him logo was on every window along with the "no mix"notices. Nothing was said to me and I quietly emptied a bit of American Spirit tobac on the table from my pouch and began to roll.

Nothing, no one flinched. Across from us were two dudes with the cig filter still on the table. We lit, got lit, and smiled :D ...so far, so good.

The hasj was NIIICE...perfect to settle our queasy stomaches as we re-acclimated to our environment. Taste, high - GREAT, value? Even better...

Right on. I'm curious about how busy the city is in August. I know lots of Europeans take vacations this time of year, so I've heard most of the places outside of cities can be full.

Nice read fella, always good to read a nice well put together report on my fav city outside of where i live, i also have read on many forums and posts that if you are discreet about your tobacco you are left alone to enjoy your smoke in peace. I was also wondering what it's like in amsterdam during the later part of the year, i arrive in amsterdam on the 23rd of september and hope its nice n busy, not so busy you cant get in any of the coffeeshops but not like feb when the city is almost deserted but for the locals.

Keep the reports comin'

Peace

D:

Thanks guys! It's good to be back, almost TOO good (if that's possible).

Quick note, since I'm hangin' in Popeye's "discreetly"smoking a mix and using their internet gratis I won't hang long.

More to come, for sure..

Some GREAT budtender experiences, A M A Z I N G Maroc's available and the Green Place has been QUITE the experience: LA Con, Blueberry Chez and Trainwreck ALL amazing and best herbs of the trip.

I'll keep y'all posted and thanks for the kind words!

Hey HasjDreamer if you happen by Hunter's the Afgan hash at 7.5 euros a gram is a worthy smoke. I liked it better than many hashes costing double.
My thoughts are free.

Thanks guys, back at s@ftland, smoking a fine hasj j, ready for some updates!

Rifman suggestions? So far we've tried two of 'em at the Tweede:

Shibani - FANTASTIC taste, complex...perfect. The high was nothing to sneeze at either!

Noor - Big ol'chunk of resin here - bold and heavy, hit us like a BRICK. Had to finish the rest strolling ever so slowly back to the apartment!

Ok, so it's Sunday morning,we're baked and we take off to get some herb and wait for our room to be ready. High from our splendid first-of-the-day jay we wander towards the Spui knowing we'll have PLENTY of time to get acquainted with the Nieumarkt area, long neglected in our travels (the Jolly Joker being the ONLY coffeeshop we've ever hit in the square). Where to? We hit the Tweede for a nice sative hit:

John Sinclair: I'm thinking like 12.5 euro or so (I'll check me facts when I grab the book and update properly) - clean, sweet and not too "sativa light"in taste. We sparked outside since we smoke our herb with backwoods sweets cigar wraps - we don't want to be THAT obvious!
Another fine example of the tweede - weed (T'weed?) - always a first stop and NEVER dissapoints!

At the counter I asked about a good rif since they had a good five to choose from. I remember some old familiar names and the newest listed was the Shebani Pollen but when I mentioned "taste, give me taste"and didn't hesitate and broke out the straight Shibani, at 14 euro per. Taste wise? She-bang! I believe we took time to sit on stools at the window table and discreetly pull my american spirit pouch out, speckling a hasj joint and suddenly thinking..."don't ask, don't tell". Yeah, I think that's it...don't ASK them, don't mention it - and it's all good.

Blissfully baked we worked our way out for our first bite break now that tummys were settled. I believe we shared a rather tasty broodje, ham & kaas, mayo, cukes and boiled egg. The streets are picking up with day trippers and those most unfortunate enough to be leaving but we're bubbling like jelly hasj on a hot knife with full stomaches and full heads.

Wandering around stoned we stop by Betty's (the original) just to say hi to our buddy the tender (who we've emailed back and forth). Sitting outside he stared blankly at us, shaking his head "am I supposed to know you?" before bursting out laughing giving me a hug and the wife a kiss.
Well, wouldn't you know he's off to London to live - Amsterdam has become too boring and not enough tourists anymore! Betty's has a semi-official (according to him) policy of allowing mix and, hence, they're busier than ever! No butts, but mix is allowed?? No space to sit so we're off to enjoy our high.

More to come...our Nieumarkt experience!

See y'all in a bit...
