Coffeeshops by music taste.....

Ok, admittedly this is never going to be that accurate, what with the shifting sands of taste and time etc... But based on 4 holidays worth of observation...

ROOKIES- Seems to be either electric blues rock, or techno trance, some reggae

ROKERIJ 1- Consistant goa'y ambient chill-out room stuff, I think they have a music policy (as opposed to leaving it up to whoevers working that day) fine by me.... no nasty surprises and tunes perfectly suit atmosphere.

DOLPHINS- Late 90's RnB/ pop, some really obvious reggae and chart-bound euro trance.... My least favorite CS music-wise (yet one of the best comfort-wise :? )

GET DOWN TO IT- Very loud trance.

TERTULIA- Nice reggae mostly, but did play radio charts a couple of times, which really didn't suit the vibe... Healing room meditation music would prob best suit this place, though it might drive the staff a little insane.

RUSLAND- Ambient, reggae and top-notch Dutch hip-hop

GOA- Reggae or trance, but occasionally Miles Davis, Bob Dylan, Led zeppelin and other stuff you'd expect to hear more of in the dam.

ABRAXAS- Chill out and ambient, really good volume level, fits atmosphere well

DAMPKRING- See Abraxas

ROUTE 66- Very loud chart stuff... slightly overbearing

AMNESIA- Psy-Trance.

PICASSO- generally mixed Reggae, old rock and some trance. but did play Euro-power metal at volume 11 at 8AM once which nearly made me involuntarily return my free breakfast.

ROKERIJ 4- Guys working there seemed to bring their own mix-cds of classic mid 90's hip-hop, trip-hop, DJ Shadow, Mo WAx and Ninja tune, chillout and dub.... the Trip hop had me in a state of Nostalgia, then they put on 'East of the river nile' by Augustus Pablo making this my favorite CS for music hands-down.

MELLOW YELLOW- Mix of reggae, decent hiphop and a little pink flloyd even... nice and varied.

Cool, my brains burst.... keep 'em comin' :D

I've seen a older gray haired DJ play some Grateful Dead, Dub, Reggae and downtempo stuff in Rokerij. I liked it.

In my coffeeshop travels and loungings, it seems to me that the type of music played depends a lot on the staff that has control over the tunes. I have heard very different music in the same shop; only the staff had changed.
MY has a juke box so what music is played depends on what is chosen by the person who drops the coins in. :D Pot n Peace.

420 play Zappa and Zappaish music as well as more bluesy stuff. I went for the Zappa and stayed for the hash :D
