Funny how the stereotype of UK is rainy, while that of other, similar climate places in Europe is not?
When I was in the UK, the weather was beautiful. I went all over England, Wales, and Scotland for two months, in the summer.

thanks for posting these beautiful pictures! they really make me looking forward to my upcoming trip to london; by the way, can any of you guys from london recommend some nice spots in or around london that are worth seeing? i've seen most of the famous sights like the tower already and would be very grateful for some insider tips! i would like to visit a typical english town/village at the coast, for example but i appreciate any advice!
thanks in advance,

i dunno how well you know london (i dont wanna sound patronising but i hope this helps). two places that i would suggest you see in london, which tend not to be on the tour busses, but interesting places for the sort of people who like coffeeshops are:
1) camden (north london)
2) brick lane in shoreditch (east london)
both are reachable within 15 minutes on the tube from the big central london stations like victoria and kings corss
camden is the alternative area of london, lots of bong shops, craft markets, bars, music stalls etc. really trendy as well, so decent (some times pricey) food and drink too. in the summer its perfect as its based around an urban canal. ideal for lovely evening pint ad smoke. (google it, youll see what i mean)
brick lane is a really interesting place. its 75% curry houses (great if you love curry), and theres a great holiday feel about walking down it in the summer. there are some real treasures there too though, when it comes to bars. cafe 1001 is one of the best alternative bars in london, and theres the chill lounge and some more traditional london pubs surrounding too. sort of area of town you see banksy art work on the walls still.
camden for day time/evening, and brick lane for evening/night time

outside of london.
i can only talk about the side of london im form. i live in buckinghamshire just outside of west london and its really nice in places.
if you can, it might be worth you going to windsor, or oxford to see some quieter towns. with some nice buildings.
for proper village life, there are tons of beautifull quiet places in the surrounding courntry side, its just a case of you have to be able ot get there. lack of busses and public transport.
off top of my head a nice village is "denham village".
if you go to maryelbone station in london, you can get an over ground train about 30 mins west out of london to denham station. denham is a small town, not very intersting, but its a 45 minute walk or a taxi ride to denham village, whihc is beautifull. and to make it nicer, theres 4 pubs, a resturant or two and nothing else except pretty houses and a church, around a village green. perfect place ot pass the afternoon in a pub garden or two.

C.S.S has given you 2 great suggestions in camden & brick lane, if u do get to brick lane u absolutely must visit the bagel shop & get a hot salt beef bagel, i guarantee u would never have had a slab of cow (they literaly give u slabs) taste so good, also if you want to chill id definatly recomend parliament hill, hampstead heath, some of the best views in london

Absolutely!Did you enjoy these isles man?
I had a great time.
Two places where I would like to, someday (when my lotto numbers come up
In addition to the many beautiful places, in the UK and the awesome cultural amenities and universities there, I also found the people to be great. For example, whenever I hitchhiked, the driver would invariably give me a historical/informative/humourous tour of the places we were going. That was brilliant!
The first time I went to the UK, many years ago, I also met some relatives, and they were great. I did not announce that I would be there (and they did not know me from Adam), I just showed up (based on some rather flimsy family info), and they put me up and showed me around. I have since returned the favour for a few of them when they came here.

For nice typical English villages outside of london i like the Essex Countryside, its rather spectuacular at times and is not often considered to be http://www.picturesofengland.com/img/L/1019086.jpg

This is a place not too far from where i grew up, beautiful little village called Battlesbridge. Essex also has alot of history, colchester is the oldest Roman town is Essex and the ' home ' of Queen Boudica, the mental lady who nearly pushed the Roman army out of the South East. Colchester castle gives alot of information and exhibts on Roman life and Stone age English life.
However if you want more formidable scenery, i suggest the lakes. My current home, this is a the fell i usually walk, very nice part of England and highly reccomended for all UK visitors.

I did, indeed, on both counts. (Purely for reseach purposes, mind.Good to hear IG, i hope you visted a traditional english pub and followed it with a visit to a traditional english kebab house/curry house.
That last photo is brilliant. Is that near where you used to live?
I am thinking of taking another degree, and I have been looking at the University of Kent, in Canterbury. Canterbury seems like a nice town. BUT 12 GRAND (in pounds sterling) just for the tuition, makes me somewhat leary.
