No, can't say that I've seen it before.
G13 Haze grows crazy like that. I had five females and they totally consumed a grow space of roughly 36 square feet. I wasn't just tying down main branches, I was tying down internodes, too. Produced 16.5 ounces trimmed and cured.
Boner, some sativas can be easily controlled. I never have a problem keeping Chocolope or Mother's Finest under the lights and they're both hardy producers and 70 days max flowering, not much different than an indica. Also, if you grow in a single space (rather than separate spaces for veg/flo), you'll easily make up the added flowering time with the shortened vegetative cycle.
I have 16 Chocolopes in the 47th day of flowering right now and the tallest one (from soil line to top) is about 3 feet, 10 inches, or a bit more than a meter. They won't get much taller.
Mother's Finest continues to vegetate in the flowering stage, and actually puts on about two-thirds of its height in flowering. But if flipped at about 12-14 inches, it will finish at a maximum of 4 to 4 1/2 feet.
Most of my indicas max out at about a meter (except Pot of Gold, which grows a few iches taller), so those two sativas are about 50 percent taller, but still manageable in most grow spaces.
Granted, some, like G13 Haze and the photo GeoffK posted, are just about too wild to control. But not all.
